Medicare Changes in 2020

Starting in 2020, there will be no more first-dollar coverage plans available to those who are considered Medicare eligible after 2020. First-dollar coverage plans are Medicare Supplement Plans that leave you with zero out of pocket costs.

The three Medicare Supplement Plans considered first-dollar coverage plans are:

Plan C
Plan F
High Deductible Plan F

Why First Dollar Coverage Plans are Being Discontinued
The reason for the change is due to some members of Congress believing Medicare beneficiaries are over-using healthcare services ...

By making everyone meet the Medicare Part B deductible, legislators hope to prevent beneficiaries from running to the doctor for every minor ailment.

Critics argue that the deductible may keep people from getting care they need.
When people don’t see a doctor, they can end up with more serious conditions down the road.

To start I’m a heart patient at the VA, Medicare is a backup.

Long story and I will keep it short.

History, heart attacks, strokes, knowledgeable of my arterial fibrillation, on meds for that and on blood thinners.

Cut my leg packing getting ready to move into a new home. Wife freaked, blood everywhere.
Called 911. For some reason they hooked me up to EKG machine. Of course I was in Afib.
Went to hospital. Walked out AMA, Care was terrible, they would not listen to me. Went to my VA hospital. Told my Primary Physician, I was tired of this Afib shit. Asked about an ablation a procedure to help manage or stop Afib, it’s surgery, so needed to get some tests.

Oh, baby..... that’s when they found my aortic aneurysm. Big one. It’s what killed John Ritter, his burst.

Told: do not lift more than 10 pounds, do not strain at the stool, do not hold in a sneeze, all and a little more could cause the aneurysm to burst, on blood thinners that is a death sentence.

The VA fixed my aneurysm, ok today all because of a cut leg that in reality if my dear wife didn’t freak I could have fixed on my own.

Little things....

GOPers want to eliminate Medicare and Medicaid, so they constantly add conditions and complications to discourage people from using it.

12. Question

I'm 63, so not on MC yet, but I'm retired, and have health coverage via my union retiree benefits until 65 - then it's the transition to Medicare. I have Kaiser, and have had it since first taking my job back in 1989. Isn't Kaiser considered an Advantage plan? I have 3 Kaiser hospitals in my area, so there IS a choice.

That in my job, I deal with insurance companies every day.
You want surgery? With commercial plans and advantage plans, you have a minimum 15 day wait for authorization.
You have Traditional Medicare? We can do it tomorrow.
I know what I would choose.

You will need to check with them as your Medicare eligibility approaches. But you should compare other carriers, too. It's amazing how different some of them are. And check to make sure that your doctors accept whatever plans look good to you.

Better yet, check with your physician's insurance office first and see if they'll give you a list of what Medicare supplements and Advantage plans they accept, then compare those to be sure you're getting your best possible deal.

Good luck!

The only thing I'm sure of is that it is deliberately complex (historical comparison shows this) and that leads to more opportunities to hoodwink 'consumers'.

The only sensible, humane requirement for health care treatment is to be a human being.

So many important decisions seem to be made based upon beliefs that have no foundation in reality.
