Trump and his allies repeatedly complain that 13 lawyers working for special counsel Robert S. Mueller III are Democratic voters or contributors: But Mueller is a conservative Republican, appointed by George W. Bush Jr. Still, almost all of Mueller's team are career Justice Department employees.
Do you remember the 36 Angry Republicans who preceded them?
Before there was Mueller, Kenneth Starr was the independent counsel, who investigated President Bill Clinton over of the course of five years. For the most part Angry Republicans worked for him, in a witch-hunt. Starr started with the Whitewater land deal and Vince Fosters suicide, and over more than five years also investigated the travel office firings, the handling of FBI files and the Monica Lewinsky scandal, for which Starr ultimately recommended that Congress consider Clintons impeachment. More recently, Starr has repeatedly expressed a desire to join the Trump defense team.
TRUMP IS CERTAINLY FORTUNATE THAT THERE ARE NO SEX-SCANDALS IN HIS PAST
Back in May, The New York Times reported: "Frustrated and impatient, fed up with waiting and eager to fight back, President Trump has embarked on what amounts to a two-prong strategy to contain the threat and undercut the credibility of the escalating investigations targeting him and his associates."
Mueller agreed to limit the scope of his investigation to Trump's interaction with Russia and related crimes. The memo was filed in response to questions raised in the court in Virginia by Judge T.S. Ellis that Mueller should not have unfettered powers.
When will Mueller end the investigation? By some strange coincidence, Hillary Clinton was under an F.B.I. investigation right up to the presidential election. Do you think that investigation cost her any votes?
