The 53-year-old singer told the crowd what had happened, during the industrial band's show.
Who voted for Ted Cruz?, he asked the crowd. See, the lights arent on, I cant see. Is there any way to turn the lights on? Id like to see.
He added: Raise your hand, you guys, nothing to be ashamed of, just checking."
He went on to tell them that the former Republican presidential nominee had tried to get on the VIP list for the show.
When he found out, Reznor said he told him to "f*** off".
He might be here tonight, the singer added. He was bugging to get on the guest list, and I told him to f*** off.
A member of the crowd filmed his comments.
The musician then admitted to the crowd that Mr Cruz, who narrowly defeated Democratic Texas Congressman Beto ORourke in the Senate election race had attended one of his shows several years ago.
He said that the politician "drank all the beer, and was just a pain in the ass to be around.
<snip>
In a recent interview with The Guardian, he lambasted the US leader and said that Americans were beginning to see a fall of the empire under his presidency/
It feels like things are coming unhinged, socially and culturally, Reznor said. The rise of Trumpism, of tribalism, the celebration of stupidity. Im ashamed, on a world stage, at what we must look like as a culture.
He also called the current Mr Trump a f***ing moron.

(22,631 posts)"Mr Cruz, ...had attended ..." I guess it could be interpreted both ways. Terrible writing, imo.

(9,350 posts)Wait, I thought Ted Cruz said he had left rock music behind in favor of country music because of the way rock music versus country music responded to the 9/11 terrorist attack. So, why is Mr. Country Boy asking for tickets to a rock music concert? Why is he not asking for Garth Brooks tickets? Why did he not attend Garth Brook's Notre Dame concert?

Either that, or Cruz wanted tickets for someone else ... does he have kids of the age that they'd wanna go to a NiN show?

(6,496 posts)He could have been a fan back in the 90's. Would have been in his 20's then. I don't see why he couldn't be into it NIN. I think a lot of these politicians are different privately than they portray themselves to be publicly, especially the Republican ones.

(19,193 posts)I'm past the age of enjoying concerts now. Crowds and volume of the music are too much for this old boy to handle anymore. Probably too many concerts when I was a younger man? I saw all the greats though, at least once. I love NiN, but only at a volume of my choosing. But bang your head a few times for me, will you? Rock on.

(19,193 posts)I used to live in St. Pete in the early 2000s. Used to love fishing off the pier (on the occasions I couldn't afford a charter out of Tarpon Springs) and spent almost every day on the beautiful beach there. I even got to two Stanley Cup games the year the Lightning won the cup. Great area, but Route 19 is a nightmare. Too many snowbirds. Have a great time amigo!

So Ted Cruz did make it backstage once?
Gen X are such a mixed bag. We've got Michelle Obama on the one hand and Ted Cruz on the other.
I read "Hillbilly Elegy" and could not understand how the author could live many of the same experiences I did and listen to the same music and come out the other end a Republican.
