I don't know if Melania was invited either or did she just choose to show up. My guess is that she probably was invited since she is a "First Lady" and she hasn't been hostile to the Bush family like Trump has. He also wasn't invited to John McCain's funeral. My guess is as you said, he invited himself, rather than allow others to establish a pattern of excluding him from official events in which the Who's Who of Wash DC are in attendance. For the record, I know that GHWB's funeral will be in Houston, but he will also lie in state in Washington prior to being taken back to Houston for funeral services and burial.

I wonder if he ever wonders what the eulogies will say about him one day. Probably not. In the 1700-1800’s people had to be paid to go to funerals (Scrooge). Just saying... That idea could be born again.

We have a president who is genuinely, no shit, mentally ill. The fact that he is an ignorant asshole is simply an unfortunate addition to the problem.
