The accolades will not be there. The accomplishments, few. The mourners, scattered if any at all. No pomp, no circumstance for a criminal who cheated his way to the White House after Robert Mueller finishes with him.
With all the nasty things Trump has done to people and said over the years, the nasty tweets he has put out about the Bushes, Clintons, Obamas, and world leaders other than the Dictators he admired, the Trump state funeral will be looked on as an abomination. A travesty and waste of time.
As Marc Antony said of Julius Caesar in William Shakespeare's play." Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me you ears. I come to bury Caesar, not praise him. The evil men do lives long after them. The good is oft interred with their bones."
The evil that is Donald Trump will live long after him, for there is NO GOOD in his bones.

(4,448 posts)And if that should happen during a future Republicans term, there will be people here on DU saying stuff like "well I didn't agree with Trump on politics, but at least <insert compliment> . and that he's not nearly as bad <insert current Republican President>.
People have short memories and the current is ALWAYS the worst ever.

That is a trendy allegation, though unsupported by evidence... like most other bumper stickers. "They always are..."

So I'm gonna skip the bibliography.
Besides. It's pretty tough to produce evidence of who the next Republican President will be.
So I'm just gonna stick with the tried and true. Chatting about my life long observations on a political chat talk board.

(15,239 posts)Let's also say that the next two years are like the first two. Embarrassments, but no wars and good economy. Then in 2020 Biden beats him, and serves two terms.
In 2028, Cruz is elected President. The following year he starts a war with Iran, many die, and the economy tanks. I'm pretty sure many would say that Cruz was worse. Perhaps rightfully so, perhaps not.

(16,162 posts)The reason HW Bush isnt universally hated here is because he served in WW2 and had a personality that was at least affable on some level. That he had a warm relationship with the Clintons and Obamas also didnt hurt.
There is none of that with Trump, as the OP laid out pretty clearly. Plus hes a traitor, to boot.
John Fante
(3,479 posts)- his average approval rating while in office according to Gallup was 61%. He was well-liked until the recession sank him. Contrast that with Trump, who struggles to maintain a 40% approval rating during a bullish economy. There's no comparison.
The next Republican president would have to literally punt children across the WH lawn to be worst than GWB or Trump.

(16,162 posts)I remembered it but it was shocking to hear again the other day. 18 months later he was gone, but I doubt well ever see another Dem or GOP prez with those numbers, however fleeting they were, again.

(11,175 posts)This honor used to be rare, accorded mainly to Presidents who had died in office.
The decision, incidentally, is made either by the leaders of Congress, or by Congressional resolution. In the case of presidents, particularly these days, their funeral plan is set shortly after they take office, and if they prefer to lie in state, then Congress' blessing is pretty much automatic. Nixon was not denied, his family preferred to skip it, because they felt the "mourners" might be less than respectful. One can imagine a similar decision being made when certain current holders of the office shuffle off this mortal coil. Truman, meanwhile, was a modest and unassuming Midwesterner who didn't want a bunch of fuss. Gerald Ford almost skipped lying in state for the same reason, but his family and friends prevailed on him to change his mind. (Source: today's "Q&A" at electoral-vote.com)

(3,275 posts)Given that Trump takes terrible care of himself, I think that most of the 4 former presidents, 6 vice presidents, 5 first ladies and 5 second ladies will outlive Trump. Jimmy Carter, Rosalynn Carter and Walter Mondale are in their 90s. Dick Cheney, Lynn Cheney and Joe Biden are older than Trump. The rest are younger than Trump. They are in their 60s and 70s with the exception of Melania Trump who is 48, Mike Pence who is 59 and Michelle Obama who is 54.

I'm thinking Mar-ma-lado, where everyone will have to rent golf carts and stay at his notoriously crappy 2 star "resort". That's if his kids aren't all in jail. They're the only people who'll show up, except for a few twisted cult members and the government employees who are bound by law to be there.
As for his final resting place, I think his ashes should be scattered by crop duster over Mexico and the other countries in Central America. It's exactly what he deserves.
