About Impeachment: I remember Watergate

Alot of people are stomping about Impeach now.

When I was in Jr. High I remember the summer and Watergate hearings being on television.
Because I grew up watching news and being interested in politics, as well as my mother and older brother and I discussing politics, I did watch the hearings off and on.
By the time I was in high school the question of impeaching Nixon was in the air. And eventually he resigned.

The democrats cannot go rushing in on Jan. 3rd and begin impeachment of Trump.

A. The democrats cannot go acting as dumb as the republicans in the late 90s with Clinton. The republicans paid a heavy price.

B. McConnoll with keep a tight grip on his republican majority in the senate and refuse to allow the 3/4 majority vote to impeach if the democrats go in like bulls in a china shop.

C. There needs to be time for Mueller to successfully complete his investigation before the democrats do anything.

And most important: There needs to be public hearings, ala Watergate, to inform the people of the crimes and those involved. They need to understand what happened and what has been going on. This will make the public more supportive of impeachment.

Impeachment is a serious thing. Not something to rush into. It needs to be done right in order to have public support and to impress on the public the seriousness of the crimes.
And to gather support from the republicans, who will do as their voters demand.

It can never be done zip bam boom.

to all the House committee investigations of all the other conspirators? An what would then happen to the Mueller investigation? I cannot imagine that the public, or the media, would look on continued investigations with the same level of seriousness and credibility.

We would waste our chance to expose the Republican Party itself as a corrupt enterprise, implicate other R leaders and the rest of the Dotard cabal all for a fruitless exercise.

But I believe that a majority of Americans already support impeachment. I think that in three months, it won't be a heavy lift.

Along with Mueller's findings, there needs to be lots of more congressional investigations producing more condemning evidence against Trump. Convince Republicans that their continued and blind support of Trump will leave them with a choice between bad and disaster. I reckon when the handwriting is on the wall they will choose 'bad' and like was done with Nixon, tell Trump he needs to resign.

There is one thing that is often left out in these musings: while I'm sure Mueller already has enough to make Trump squirm and raise his blood pressure, he is probably finishing up dossiers on plenty of the people who helped Trump get where he is, and have helped him stay there. Cabinet members (past and present), Pence, and family members as well. This is important, as Pence is no Gerry Ford.

Pence is every bit as evil and as destructive as Trump is, has a longer attention span, and is thoroughly convinced that Allah the Merciful has chosen him to carry on the Republican Jihad if Trump falls. Keep in mind that if Trump resigns tomorrow, and Pence gets away scot free, that he will have even LONGER in office than Trump did, and look how much damage Trump has caused in the short time he has been there.

is working methodically towards forcing the GOP to take their Leader out of Office. Patience is a virtue my friends.

What seems to be the Team Mueller tactics is,each time they do a Filing, they have they Target Evidence covered by facts three of four ways.

It isn't 3/4 of the Senate it is 2/3. 3/4 would be 75 votes. 67 is darn near impossible, 75 would be insane.

I understand the fervor after 2 years of slimy corruption and the damaging of institutions by that clown in the White House, but you are correct that the Democrats will have one shot at impeachment and will have to make sure that they have all of the facts and have framed the narrative so that the public understands and does not turn against them.

I think that people need to understand that removing a President from office is not something "normal" and not something that Americans want to do. 3 times in American history have Presidents been impeached and not once have they been removed from office. Clinton gained popularity because his impeachment was seen as purely political. It grew out of an investigation into a land deal in Arkansas and ended up in an affair.

The good thing is that Mueller has been a consummate professional during the investigation into Trump's alleged wrongdoings. Another good thing is that the Democratic leadership while hinting at impeachment, has clearly tied that possibility to the evidence from the investigation, and to what they will be investigating on their own come January.

Trump knows that he is likely in serious trouble, which is why he is behaving so erratically. We need to gather our evidence, keep the pressure on, then go when we have clear reason to. In the meantime, Trump will likely implode and make the Democrats' job easier.

even considering any impeachment/ These hearings need to be on CSPAN so the american people can see the full extent of trump admin corruption, the GOP corruption and the dark money that controls the process

then in 2020, in april, start impeachment discussions and hearings in the House
