(42,770 posts)Barely hear her.
My takeaways:
1. Trump runs all over her
2. Trump treats her like she is weak
3. Neither Schumer nor Pelosi said experts say a wall wont do any good AND you said many many times Mexico would pay for the wall. What is the status?

In fact before they became this bad, and before he was majority leader, he was famous for saying he saw no reason to speak to his voters, or that it was a waste of his time or something of that order. He's been selling influence and reliably returned by office with however much money that takes for decades now.
Lol, Pence does his best to play least-in-sight also, but his role as uber-loyal acolyte doesn't allow that as much.

(3,259 posts)Trump doesn't negotiate his own deals. He doesn't fire people himself. He doesn't write or take part in the writing of his own books.
Someone in the administration should be smart enough to keep the cameras out even if Trump really wanted them.

(1,998 posts)with Trump, "prepared" with his mini-cuecards and Schumer and Pelosi speaking off the cuff, having expected a quick photo-op before a closed-door negotiation.
The dems couldn't publicly call him on it without looking whiny, but I think they did pretty well, all things considered. Pelosi even called attention to his cards.
How many of his staff were actually in on the plan we can't know. Even if they were, his staff at this point is only sycophantic yes-bots who couldn't stop him anyway.

Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)Schumer called him out. I have seen this a zillion times in business environments...unless a woman can speak up and be short and very pointed, men will talk right over them. Doesnt make her or any woman less smart ( in most cases they are smarter). I think that neither pressed him on Mexico paying for the wall...inexcusable. Dont recall anyone having a golden opportunity like this in a very long time.

(42,770 posts)flunky. He condescends to women, especially when he thinks he is superior. Like the "Nancy do you have anything to add?". Have heard that approach in business a zillion times.

(108,925 posts)Women, and many men, see him for what he is.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)Sure the rest would see that as anything deeper than he was being respectful to her. It stuck out to me because I have seen that so much...men in business (maybe just because I am now in a red state)..who think they are acting cool...and hip...but are actually patronizing the woman.

(42,770 posts)and Schumer were talking over her. Unless you listened to some kind of slow mo versions with closed captions, no. And sure most average people didn't either.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)Pretty tough to out shout a raving idiot. I am a soft voiced man, I have been in plenty of meetings where loud mouthed idiots had to be silenced with facts, you try not to publicly humiliate them. Nancy pointed out that the discussion should be fact based away from cameras. I agree with her.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)watching. We know what she said because we care and listened upteenth times. Bet no one ...the average low info voter heard half of what she said. Trump is a media guru, remember. He and Schumer talked over her for the second half of the meeting.
Why do you think he has those "helicopter" press conferences? So we can't hear the questions and he can bullshit away!
I heard him say that Acosta wasn't a problem because they could just turn the camera off him. He is orchestrating.
Why he was pissed today that Schumer didn't look him in the eye. Made him look less kingly.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)Chuck Schumer even lured him into a trap.
There is a credible report that Trump was so mad after the meeting that he threw briefing papers across the Oval Office, that is not what a person that "won" does, certainly not one that is supposed to be media savvy. He got his ass kicked.

(6,369 posts)They both dug in in their heels and talked over each other. It was just a mess more than anything.
The one note was that Trump did say that he'll gladly take full responsibility shutting down the government. That's a clip that's going to both be hated by the left and independents, and loved by his base. To his voters, he's "taking charge" and "putting America first"
