then as we know pet projects for wealthy donors and who knows what will just gobbler that shit right up. Does anyone think the Trump supporters who donated billions will still get a clue?

(3,259 posts)The only way it would be gifted is if Pelosi set out clear guidelines for it's use in an appropriations bill. That will never happen.

(146,286 posts)All that money will have to be refunded to the donors. Mathematically, it's hard to see how crowdfunding could generate even a single billion dollars. The math just doesn't work.

(28,928 posts)In just a few days it is already over 1% there and it's funding faster every day. At the current rate it would be at a billion in about 9 months. However, it is probably going to peak in a month or two then run out of steam.

(146,286 posts)Like you, I think the curve will flatten out before long. 1% is a very small number, really, especially at that scale Maintaining the momentum required to grow to 1000 Million dollars is going to be a very tough job. I just can't imagine it succeeding.
I think it will settle out at something like $25 million and then go flat. But even if it gets to $100 million, that's still only a tenth of the way to the first billion.

You have to imagine they are watching this new go-slush-fund me carefully, but it would not surprise me in the least if he tries to make off with most or all of it. "Well, I had to pay my lawyers to keep me out of prison so I could eventually build that wall. Therefore, it is actually going toward building the wall."

(37,319 posts)That's $29 million per $1 billion for a max of $145 million. If they get all those who voted for Trump to donate, that would be an additional $20 million in fees.
On the other hand, if the effort fails, gofundme.com would be badly hurt. Those Russian donors are going to want their money back.

One more indication of a dysfunction government.
