HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) --
Sources say one suspect is in custody for the deadly shooting of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes, but the investigation is ongoing with a possible second suspect.
According to sources, the suspect does not resemble the sketch given.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office posted a statement on Twitter, saying the investigation has taken a "new direction."

(11,062 posts)Let me tell you the story of the red truck and how it came to be the focus of this investigation. Two men, in a completely different vehicle, pulled up and shot and killed Jazmine Barnes, shot her mother, and injured her sisters. Jazmine and the girls were still in pajamas. Her mother and the girls never saw the shooter. They heard the shots, saw that Jazmine was shot in the head, that her mother was shot, and then looked up and saw this red truck with a white man driving it peeling off. THREE separate eyewitnesses, each credible, who also heard the shooting, also saw this truck speeding off. I spoke to each of them. They also assumed the white man driving it fired the shots. A brave man even followed the red truck in his own car and got a good look at him. A tow truck driver also saw the truck and got a look at him. In the meantime, the two men that actually shot and killed Jazmine drove off in a completely different direction through the neighborhood. They each later claimed that they thought they were shooting someone from a rival gang. Yes, they did it. No, they werent framed. It just took several days to solve it.

(37,648 posts)Horrible. Looks like they were trying to shoot someone else and mistook the car the little girl was in for that other one.
They are Af. American, so it wasn't a hate crime.
Mistake or not, that's what happens when you go around shooting in cars. And they were trying to intentionally kill someone else.
Glad they know who did it, at least. He said they didn't know they'd shot anyone until they saw it on the news. If that's true, I bet they were shocked they had killed a little girl.
These scumbags need to be taken off the streets for good. A horrible thing. That poor little girl and her family. I can't imagine. Just driving along minding their own business, and someone shoots into their car and kills one of the children. Horrifying.

(20,711 posts)"During court, investigators say a traffic stop was conducted on Jan. 5 at the 13,600 block of Woodforest Boulevard on a 2007 Pontiac GC, Woodruffe was driving, for an obscured license plate and a defective light.
According to authorities, when they made contact with Woodruffe they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from his vehicle. He was detained at the scene.
During a pat down search, officers say they found a plastic bottle containing 124 pills, some which they recognized to be Xanax.
A judge has set Woodruffe's bail to $100,000, but additional charges could be added."
