The following is by Florida writer Adam-Troy Castro, shared by a friend on FB:
The serious answer: Heres what we really think about Trump supporters - the rich, the poor, the malignant and the innocently well-meaning, the ones who think and the ones who don't...
That when you saw a man who had owned a fraudulent University, intent on scamming poor people, you thought "Fine."
That when you saw a man who had made it his business practice to stiff his creditors, you said, "Okay."
That when you heard him proudly brag about his own history of sexual abuse, you said, "No problem."
That when he made up stories about seeing muslim-Americans in the thousands cheering the destruction of the World Trade Center, you said, "Not an issue."
That when you saw him brag that he could shoot a man on Fifth Avenue and you wouldn't care, you chirped, "He sure knows me."
That when you heard him illustrate his own character by telling that cute story about the elderly guest bleeding on the floor at his country club, the story about how he turned his back and how it was all an imposition on him, you said, "That's cool!"
That when you saw him mock the disabled, you thought it was the funniest thing you ever saw.
That when you heard him brag that he doesn't read books, you said, "Well, who has time?"
That when the Central Park Five were compensated as innocent men convicted of a crime they didn't commit, and he angrily said that they should still be in prison, you said, "That makes sense."
That when you heard him tell his supporters to beat up protesters and that he would hire attorneys, you thought, "Yes!"
That when you heard him tell one rally to confiscate a man's coat before throwing him out into the freezing cold, you said, "What a great guy!"
That you have watched the parade of neo-Nazis and white supremacists with whom he curries favor, while refusing to condemn outright Nazis, and you have said, "Thumbs up!"
That you hear him unable to talk to foreign dignitaries without insulting their countries and demanding that they praise his electoral win, you said, "That's the way I want my President to be."
That you have watched him remove expertise from all layers of government in favor of people who make money off of eliminating protections in the industries they're supposed to be regulating and you have said, "What a genius!"
That you have heard him continue to profit from his businesses, in part by leveraging his position as President, to the point of overcharging the Secret Service for space in the properties he owns, and you have said, "That's smart!"
That you have heard him say that it was difficult to help Puerto Rico because it was the middle of water and you have said, "That makes sense."
That you have seen him start fights with every country from Canada to New Zealand while praising Russia and quote, "falling in love" with the dictator of North Korea, and you have said, "That's statesmanship!"
That Trump separated children from their families and put them in cages, managed to lose track of 1500 kids. has opened a tent city incarceration camp in the desert in Texas - he explains that theyre just animals - and you say, well, ok then.
That you have witnessed all the thousand and one other manifestations of corruption and low moral character and outright animalistic rudeness and contempt for you, the working American voter, and you still show up grinning and wearing your MAGA hats and threatening to beat up anybody who says otherwise.
What you don't get, Trump supporters in 2019, is that succumbing to frustration and thinking of you as stupid may be wrong and unhelpful, but it's also...hear me...charitable.
Because if you're NOT stupid, we must turn to other explanations, and most of them are less flattering.'

(535 posts)I totally agree, stupid (while accurate) lets them off the hook too much.
They have stood by that monster while he called for the targeted assassination of innocent women and children overseas as US policy, stood by him through bragging about repeated sexual assault, sympathized with murderous Nazis, set up concentration camps for children literally ripped from their families and left to die through negligence , intimated a 2nd amendment solution for Hillary Clinton, endorsed a credibly accused child rapist for high office, on and on...
So, murder and child rape aren't deal breakers for these "people." These aren't political ideological differences, this is good vs evil. Never forget, never forgive.

(53,410 posts)Hes always been cunning and mean, and hes a con man, totally sold on his own inflated opinion of himself and of everyone else being stupidly gullible. He knows how he can best manipulate low intelligence, greedy people because deep down hes just like them.
And it works. He is a master at it, just like he knew himself to be. But, and this is his downfall, he never understood anyone who isnt either low intelligence, greedy or gullible. He just assumed those people were in the minority and could easily be overcome. As it turns out he underestimated the numbers of people who are intelligent enough to see what he is.
In the end he will be defeated by his own ignorance of human nature. But he wont learn anything useful, just like he never learned in 7 decades. At best he will die a bitter old man feeling he was cheated of his rightful rewards.

(8,419 posts)In California a person can only be so open. But at least those people are not hiding their ignorance. The ones i respect the least, the ones who lead with, "it isn't fair to lump us all together as racists."
I like using the OJ jury analogy on them. The older woman jurist who was open in her interviews that her decision was payback for Gates and the LAPD beatings of black men. She made it clear, OJ didn't impact her directly so fuck justice. Now the others, they came across as gutless followers, they knew what they were doing was wrong yet did it anyway.

(26,355 posts)Most of them, yes, are malicious barbarians.
I have no respect for any Trump supporter, and I've cut almost all of them (the ones that aren't family) out of my lives completely.
I have no place for people with the Trump supporter attitude in my life. They're malicious pieces of shit. I regard the shitheads that wear a MAGA hat in the same way I regard those that wear a swastika armband. They're fucking scumbags.
I thoroughly pissed off a person by saying this in a conversation in a restaurant. Am I wrong?

(22,100 posts)would go yapping on endlessly about rump and his so called attributes. All lies.
We have the right to say anything we want too. I guarantee you that none of them, I repeat, none of them (rump voters) would lift a finger to help you in times of need. If anything, they would elbow you out of the way.
This is the big reason I dropped dealing w/ my 'worthless' family, who never seemed to be around to help, when I needed it, but always were around when they needed something (multiple 'loans' which turned into gifts of course when they didn't repay me).
Now, since I never saw the money again, I never ever again will help them, regardless of the pleas. Cried WOLF too many times. I know it's harsh, but I've been taken by this approximately 10 times, and of course never saw any kind of a payment or effort to help me in return when it could have really helped me, especially when my back was out.
I am glad you pissed them off. I'm sick and tired of these 'entitled' people.
Take care and be strong to yourself!!

(4,858 posts)...you're exactly right. If Trump said tomorrow that the US was on the wrong side in World War Two, and that we should have allied with Hitler to destroy the Communists...his supporters wouldn't blink an eyelash. The media would solemnly embrace both-sides-may-be-right. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if outright fascist salutes openly return to Trump rallies.

(4,461 posts)... understanding of voters who went trump in the 2016 election. I live in a red state and I know quite a few who did so. I tried to separate the misguided from the deplorables.
But I have since realized that what I was actually saying was that people who voted for trump are either politically very stupid, or are assholes. There is no in between. There is no mediation or gray area that allows one to escape from one of these two classifications.
The OP illustrates and explains it much better than I ever could have.

(254 posts)People who voted for this miserable thing will never understand the damage it has and will continue to do to this country. Why? I think because they have bought into the lie that anyone can make it rich in America only if they work hard and manage to skew laws and other governmental agencies to work in their favor. After all isn't that is exactly what the clown in the white house did?
The American dream (at least for me) never existed.

(779 posts)My parents are Trump voters, and though we mostly avoid the topic, I think they are still mentally in the Trumpist echo chamber based on occasional comments. So the problem is if I were to read off this list to them, they would repeatedly reply with "I've never heard about that", or "that never happened", or "you heard that on CNN? Well then I don't believe it." They get their "news" from the creators of alternative facts, and they probably think they are better informed than me.
