I just went to my CREDIT UNION my great CREDIT UNION....................

and they have a note on the page that if any of there members are effected by the shut down to give them a call and they will work with those that are effected by this looming economic disaster, that is in full display now, because of the orange narcissistic malignant ass, and the senate Majority leader McConnell laps..................

Hey McConnell you and him and your libertarian fascist party now own this disaster, lock stock and barrel................

So I will send out a shout out to my Credit Union in the Pittsburgh area, they are still at the Pittsburgh airport under a different name since the merger.......................

I can get 2-2.5% in the commercial market.

38. Not all chocolate and roses, though.

My credit union will only communicate with its members via snail mail. No text or email.

I often spend several weeks away from home during the summer for research. This has caused very severe hardships for me three separate times - namely, the three times there was a security breach at the CU and everyone's debit card had to be replaced. Most members found out when they got their replacement card in the mail; I would learn this when I tried to use an ATM and found myself unable to access my funds. In one of these cases, they finally agreed to let me use my old card when I explained that I was traveling between locations in Kenya and could not guarantee being in any one place long enough to receive a FedEx package.

I've come close to switching to a regular bank several times because of this.

4. A Tulsa bank stepped up this morning.

They are allowing their customers who are federal employees to keep paying bills and will cover expenses up to the amount of their regularly deposited paycheck! So strings.

5. Love my Credit Union

I have had an account since the late 70's because my Dad was a Federal employee.

When I went away to college in 1984, I got a traditional bank account just so I could do business away from home. After a year of fees and frustration, I bagged the bank account and have never looked back. My CU has always taken good care of me for a fraction of the cost. Often even paying interest on accounts that I would have to pay for elsewhere.

To this day I sometimes get funny looks at how low my account number is since I have had it for 40 years.

Over the years they have significantly relaxed their membership requirements to allow a lot more groups to join. It was with particular irony that I noted that their membership eligibility extends as a perk for employees of a number of banks. What does that tell you?

6. Our credit union did the same thing...

They sent out an email, posted an announcement on FB and its on their main page.

THIS is why I haven't had an account at a traditional bank in around 30 years and, after seeing how fantastic they were when we got together, my husband closed all of his work related and personal accounts at those as soon as he retired due to a work related injury.

10. We need to revive the "Move Your Money" Campaign.

and urge people to move their personal and business accounts to a local credit union, or a community bank. Anything labeled "too big to fail" is financially toxic and bad for the country and the world, too.

25. Doing this now!

Got a notice that Chase is raising my rate from 11.9 to 16.99. Transferred my personal balance to my personal bank 0% for 18 months.

Moving my business debt to Credit Union at 8.99%.

Fuck you Jamie Dimon. 27.5 million a year is not good enough for you....

16. Here's what our CU's CEO posted...

We are in day ten of the new year, and unfortunately, it has been a rough start for some already. As you know, the House and Executive branches have not been able to reach a budget agreement to fund the government. The overall impact is there are furloughed government workers who must stay home and receive no paycheck and essential services, i.e., Federal Correction Officers, TSA, Customs and Border Patrol to name just a few departments which must report to work, but will receive no pay.

If any of our members are affected as a federal employee, we are open to assisting them with a number of options, including, but not limited to offering lines of credit, extensions or skip payments, bridge loans or even waiving a penalty for early withdrawal on a certificate of deposit.

We absolutely understand that one may have difficulty making an auto payment, credit card or mortgage payment, or just need some additional credit to get through until the US Government is fully back in service and paychecks resume.

Our priority at SeaComm is always to assist our members when they need us the most.

Been a member since 1980, only have savings in a bank if I need to cash employer checks. Now that I'm retired, I only have the one CU acct. I'll never go back to a bank, I'll keep cash in my mattress first.

14. Much love for my credit union.

If you set up your direct deposit with them, they will automatically pull money from your savings if you have it or even cover small overages since they know they're getting a deposit on a regular basis instead of triggering an overdraft with a fee. None of the bullshit "Oh, your account at minus $3.16, so we're going to charge you $30 as a penalty and repeat it every time it happens..." The one time I did goof and get an overdraft fee due to someone cashing a two-month-old check I thought had already cleared, they only fined me once instead of for three separate transactions that put me in the red.

If you are affected by shut down and they will help. Not sure what that means but its there.

Its a credit union with branches in both conservative and liberal cities in a small area.

21. Had a similar experience.

Many years ago, when I was a grad student in my 20s, I couldn't make a car payment. I called Russ, my guy at the credit union and he said, hey no problem, pay us when you can.

I never forgot his kindness, so today, a few decades later, I still have a $100 deposit in my credit union account because I want to remain a member for the duration to show my appreciation.

the credit union and put all our money there. Haven't had a problem since. Over 40 years now. The locals even accept our out of state checks from the credit union. Join a credit union, you won't be sorry.

They function on a scale that makes everything workable. Any odd trips to an actual bank will send you running gratefully back to your CU.
