The long opinion piece by Frank Bruni in the NYT includes a chilling acknowledgement concerning coverage, supported by data outlined in a report from Harvard Kennedy Schools Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy.
The study's author Thomas Patterson (who is Harvard's Bradlee Professor of Government and the Press) analyzed news coverage during the 2016 general election and concluded that both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump received coverage that was overwhelmingly negative in tone and extremely light on policy.
Regarding their fitness for office, they were treated identically? In retrospect, thats madness. It should have been in real time, too.

(11,885 posts)They show repeatedly him on TV promoting pure putin propaganda and lies, and his fake promotions he's doing for putin here. Wonder how much putin is paying them ? He's gotten many republicans in Congress now in his pockets, so I'd bet some of the media is also, or being persuaded to promote him , or else.

(24,402 posts)so I won't set myself up to be disappointed. Not exactly sure how they will polish the orange turd this time to be acceptable for another 4 year term over the election of just about any Democrat, however. He's two years in and can't keep people in his (mis-)Administration and/or find new people to work for him, a level of dysfunction that we didn't have even with Dubya. There's almost no Democrat we could elect that would rival, let alone surpass the Trump clusterf**k.
