Trump asking Congressmen to compromise their principals

For the sake of this argument please imagine that you are a Congressman or Congresswoman. It really doesn't matter if you're a Republican, Democrat, Liberal or Conservative. You ran for this office because you believe in something. You understand that compromise is part of governing, but you refuse to compromise your principals.

You believe a wall is the wrong way to solve our immigration crisis. More judges at the border, better infrastructure, rules that give safety and tolerance to asylum seekers; these are the issues that drive you. You do not, under any circumstances, believe that a concrete wall for 2,000 miles and $28 billion of taxpayer money is a solution.

Now, your position prevails. You are in the majority and a vast majority of Congress agrees with you. Trump does not have the votes for his fucking wall. He doesn't have a majority in the House or the Senate and certainly doesn't have the 60 votes needed in the Senate.

Trump shuts down the government. He holds the government and it's 800,000 workers hostage. He wants to rule by fiat, because he doesn't have the votes. And the only way he can get the votes is to have scores of elected officials betray their principals and vote contrary to their beliefs. This is not Democracy and every American should put the blame right where it belongs; on the heads of Donald Trump and the Republican leadership that enables him.

Trump, I can understand. After all, the American Government is not the government he works for, but the rest of the Republicans? What's their excuse.

the principle that's it's OK to chase after the acquisition of wealth by any means necessary. Lie, cheat, steal. All OK if ya don't get caught.
