Trump wants to reclassify radioactive waste as "non-harmful" to cut the costs of its safe disposal. Now ain't that grand? Surely there will be a law suit?

(50,249 posts)Trump is the most ignorant, foolish, unqualified, toxic person to be within a mile of the White House. This character should have been ousted months ago. The GOP must be on the Russian payroll . . . it's the only answer.

(7,430 posts)Millions of rubles poured into McConnell's slush fund in 2016. No doubt more is on the way. The entire GOP leadership is awash in rubles. They aren't talking because they're also hanging on the hook.
This is not about ideology or domestic political pressure. It's about raw money and fatal blackmail. Every day that passes in which the GOP is silent is a day that verifies the pivotal importance of RUBLES in this picture.

(86,502 posts)that prohibits that. He's not king of the world and just because he wants to wave his hand and run his mouth make everything happen, it ain't so.
He's cornered and he knows it, expect him to spew out everything outrageous offense he can think of because we aren't letting up on him. I expect him to not be in office by March. He doesn't have the mental capacity to pull this off. I think that several of his enablers are about to find themselves posing for mug shots in the very near future which, I would hope, should reduce the capacity of the idiot to foist his will on us and have it happen.

(1,822 posts)I will admit that I dont know the specifics involved in disposing nuclear waste, but I would imagine we want to be as safe as possible in doing it.

(7,142 posts)It won't just be about disposal of waste. Don't build or buy a house downwind from a nuclear plant.

(36 posts)One day a big envelope arrived in the mail from the utility company in coordination with the NRC and the State, if I recall. It was a placard that, on federal penalty, would have to be displayed in the house upon evacuation in case of nuclear accident. It simply said: I HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. I guess it was to take the place of spray paint Xs on homes post-accident search & recovery. One could not take pets upon evacuation to the designated shelter. Kids not at home would be transported to a place of safety, and they'd sort out reunification of families later.
This placard was never to be pitched in the trash and MUST, on penalty, pass to future owners as this was a one-time regulation. There were no instructions to receive another if it somehow was damaged or destroyed accidentally as in "the dog ate my homework." Accordingly we left that federally-protected hunk of cardboard placard and instructions prominently displayed on the workbench in the basement when we moved. Funny though, neither of the buyer/seller real estate agents involved in the transaction ever mentioned being sure to pass that placard on to the next owner and, at that time, even radon testing results were not mandatory upon closing. I've often wondered if that hunk of a printed shirt-box cardboard sign still exists somewhere in the bowels of that residence?????
I did hear that potassium iodide tablets were also dispensed but only within the 3-mile zone some time after moving away. Truth to tell, we were more worried about living near a synthetic oil manufacturing plant and the rail line where every day we could hear the tanker cars being loudly coupled together...KABOOM! not a silent Pooph! if you know what I mean. Authorities noted we'd pick up more daily rads from standing on or near the steps of an old nearby antique stone and brick school than the dangers of being within that 10-mile zone.

All that assurance was only delusion.
It's worse than the greatest paranoid thoughts I had on Nov 7th 2016.

(1,678 posts)to let mining companies dump it into waterways and to bypass the volume restrictions as set in the 1872 mining law which is still enforced. I believe this enabled the mountain-top removal" mining operations.
Also, the material from industrial chimney filters was reclassified from toxic waste to industrial by product and sold as an additive to fertilizer. I have no links but eat organic food as much as possible.
BTW some armor pericing bullets are made of depleted uraiumn and are now causing cancer in our Mideast war zones.
