Not that I imagine he would have tried very hard, but it would be some horrible publicity here for the catering company if people found out they did a job for Trump during the middle of a gov't shutdown.

Of course he could have had food brought over from his hotel, but that actually would have cost him some coin.

I've been trying to give him the benefit of the doubt in thinking that he might have had good but misguided intentions in giving young men fast food in the White House (because I think it's rude to criticize a gift, even a shitty one, if the giver meant well), but you are absolutely right... he could totally have had his hotel cater it and paid for it himself. But he did not. And that says a lot about him.

(I wish the admins would put the puke smilie on the first page - with all the crap going on in the White House, I use it most of all.)

...for the crowd. Awwwww. Don't we feel sympathetic for his plight? Don't we love how generous he is to those hungry young men?

Remember the tax-returns photo op? Tables piled high with folders to show how much work it was to get it done, which is why he wasn't sharing the info with us? The folders were filled with reams of blank paper.

...being inappropriate in these troubled times, so what did we expect.

He had other options, too many to count, and he chose to go with a low-class insulting photo op with burgers so he could look generous to FOX viewers.

I just wonder why the World's Greatest Businessman and self-made billionaire who is paying out of his own pocket can only afford Mickey D's. And why even a Fux viewer couldn't put 2 and 2 together to ask the same question.

Seems really strange. Maybe he should have gone with those Super Long subs that are popular on Superbowl Sunday. I still can't believe Chik Fil A was left off. I hate to admit it but those Dominionists make a mean spicy chicken sandwich. Maybe eating one every so often will spare me from the fires.of hell.

it doesn't effect him. He doesn't care what he eats, but the coaches and staff care what the athletes eat. Good nutrition matters.

I know we all splurge from time to time, but the WH can and should do better than cold fast food. Even personally paying the wages for furloughed kitchen staff (and the food) shouldn't matter.

I know, I know after 2-3 years of him you would think I wouldn't have such expectations.

like a block away from the White House. He could have easily catered the event from there. But no-o-o-o-- God forbid he should spend any real money or care at all about anyone except himself. It occurred to me this morning that the price of the fast food for the athletes was the price of one of Melania's more moderately priced dresses.

I like what you said "the price of the fast food for the athletes was the price of one of Melania's more moderately priced dresses." He literally fed an entire football team for one of his wife's dresses.

The cheap bastard owns a five-star hotel that has several restaurants in it...three blocks from the White House. You are NOT going to tell me he couldn't have borrowed a few cooks from that place to make steak and shrimp for a hundred people.

I think he's probably reveling in all the bad press this has drawn.

I mean, why did he feed them at all? I've never heard of a national championship team (or Super Bowl champ, or World Series winner) being given dinner at the White House. It's usually a 5-10 minute photo op in the Oval Office, or on the steps of the South Portico, and then typically 3 or 4 months after the victory. Why a "dinner" seven days after the game?

although my Cubs went shortly after the 2016 World Series when Obama was President, and again the next summer for Trump.
But Trump hosted Alabama last year in April as 2017 national champions. There was no dinner, and I can't think of one under any other President, although this type of thing has been (or was) as traditional as the turkey pardon at Thanksgiving.

Payment in advance only, and don't forget to tip the driver.

Who would cater this, and leave the president without payment. In cash.

Cash on the barrel head. In advance.

It also brings up the unfortunate fact of why Trump had to have the Clemson team over to the White House so soon after they won the game. Last year, Alabama didn't get to the White House until April. What was so all-fired important that Trump had to get the Clemson team to the White House in the dead of winter on a weeknight?
