When was the first labor strike in America?
The Great Railroad Strike of 1877 -- U.S. railroad workers began strikes to protest wage cuts. It started in Martinsburg, West Virginia, and then spread to many other states. A general strike halted the movement of U.S. railroads. In the following days, strike riots spread across the United States.

When was the last general strike?
The strike was called one minute before midnight on Monday 3 May 1926 by the General Council of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in sympathy with the 1.2 million coal miners who had been locked out of the pits after a dispute with company bosses.Sep 26, 2018

maintain (and why they are), the effort it takes to get one local to go out on strike and the absurd scale that would be necessary to get "Americans" as a whole to do so, before they start saying, "hey, general strike?" Withholding labor is undoubtedly one of the most powerful things a worker can do. But the mobilization effort and support it requires makes it very, very difficult. Strikes tear apart communities and sometimes families. For unions, they are a last desperate resort, not something to be taken lightly.

Have been for over two years now. If I hadn't been awarded SSDI last spring, I'd be dead by now.

strike effectively themselves by shutting down/grounding all their flights. Given the very real concerns re: air travel safety arising out of the shutdown, you would think such a drastic action could be politically justifiable.

Now that would end the shutdown pronto.

Chance of it happening. I’d be lying if I didn’t say ZERO ... but, it’s a great fantasy nonetheless.
