5. We have to target gop senators

Mcconnell isn’t going to budge unless his leadership is in jeopardy. I don’t know if the senate can just switch leaders in a sumple vote or if some republicans would have to caucus with democratic senators temporarily to make that hapoen.

It’s absolutely unheard of and very unlikely but may be our best shot of applying pressure.

Short of that, I’m afraid something catastrophic will have to happen. At some point losing their pension will be less of a problem than not having a paycheck and there will he a mass exodus that shuts down air travel.

Financial markets could also apply pressure. The problem is that will also be slow and the damage will not be repaired simply by reopening the government. Investors have to ask if the US remains a stable place to invest if we can’t keep the government open.
