Kevin McCarthy Appears to Swipe at Paul Ryan When Asked Why GOP Never Punished Steve King

by Aidan McLaughlin | Jan 16th, 2019, 8:27 am

-snip-

When reporters asked McCarthy why King was only being punished now, he replied: “Have I been leader for years?”

McCarthy is the new top Republican in the House, having taken over from Paul Ryan — the now retired Wisconsin Republican.

McCarthy added he had only been in charge “a short amount of time” but was now “in a position to take action.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who isn’t new to power, pleaded ignorance of King’s oeuvre when asked the same question: “I haven’t been following every utterance of Congressman King. I certainly followed this one, and I think the House Republican conference did the right thing.”

the past and his pattern of making these vile remarks continued, since he was never reprimanded in the past for similar remarks by GOP leadership. No one is surprised, being that the GOP leadership has also failed miserably in dealing with rump's constant barrage of ignorant comments on just about everything.

This time around, king got caught. Plain and simple. And no way to explain the remarks away easily, either.

Leadership on the republican side has failed miserably AGAIN.

Again, proof that the republican leadership overlooked ignorance on the part of their members, all purely for power and party, and not country.

Evidence is simple. Ignorant comments made in the past (no reprimands) versa ignorant comments made now (reprimands include being thrown off of committees, etc., more to come too). Only difference now is that democratic controlled House of Representatives is there to finally provide a check against these ignorant acts.

Gee Kevin, you make it sound like you had no leadership or influence all that time you were the Republican Leader in the House. Did Ryan leave your spine in a jar on your desk when he cleared out and ran away from the huge mess he made? Too bad, so sad. And now that you're The Man, people are looking to you for actual leadership. That means you have to pay attention to what the members of your caucus say and do, even the ninnies like Steve King and Louie Gohmert.

Sucks to be you, Kevin. Years of coasting didn't quite prepare you to do some actual work.
