87-year-old's obituary: Trump 'hastened' her death

By Meagan Flynn January 16 at 6:29 AM

Frances Irene Finley Williams felt the same way about dress codes at funerals as she felt about politics: strongly.

So when she died just before Thanksgiving at age 87, her family members thought they would make politics a part of her obituary. It was only natural, said her daughter, Cathy Duff. Williams and her husband, Bruce, 92, were the kind of couple who woke up with the Louisville Courier-Journal and USA Today and went to bed switching channels between CNN and the local news. She was a bridge-playing, churchgoing, Elvis Presley- and Willie Nelson-loving political junkie who “did not take gladly to fools," a “very, very spirited woman" who sometimes said that her frustration about President Trump was killing her — “contributing to her decline,” as Duff put it.

... at the end of her mother’s obituary, just after the part about Williams’s passion for making family photo albums, Duff added this sentence: “Her passing was hastened by her continued frustration with the Trump administration.”

... the Courier-Journal declined to publish it: The Trump quip would need to be removed, the family was told, or the $1,684 obituary wouldn’t run at all ...

With a paid obit, you're buying space in the newspaper. There is no obligation to to run one. A funeral home can run one online just as easily.

I think my dads was around $500 back in 2008 for not all that many words/letters and his picture. I saw some afterword that I know cost peeps $2-3,000 for an obit for well known local person.

Hence, you'll see some folks pinching pennies by leaving out commas, using "&" instead of "and", etc. One's that run photos cost more. But for that kind of money, it must have been REALLY long and/or had a big photo.

Makes me wonder what would happen if obit said “She credits her longevity to Donald Trump and his bigly pussy grabbing”
