Ann Coulter was yapping that she advises Trump and it is none of our business...she went on to say that Federal workers have the BEST benefits and vacation days, etc. in the world. I am here to tell you that is BS...I worked for the USDA late 80s to early 90s and during that time I could not afford health ins as they wanted 1/2 of my monthly pay back...State always trumped Federal benefits. State, City, Federal last...good thing I was young, and didn't get sick....

(51,550 posts)All that will do is attract the sort of incompetence that is surrounding Trump right now. Maybe you have a death wish, Ann, but I am kinda fond of public safety. It's a Dem thing I guess.

(838 posts)What gets me is when privately employed people want to tear down public employees down to their level, ie minimal benefits, no pension etc. Shouldnt they be looking at their situation and demanding that private employers give them the same benefits they believe public employees have?
Easier to destroy than fight for what you want, I guess.

(621 posts)It was very disheartening. He used lies, easily disproven by facts, but everybody was in this teachers are the enemy rage. They refused to see. None of that private vs public sector disinformation is true once you factor in education and job experience. A school psychiatrist could make hundreds of thousands in public practice but makes $60,000 when she RETIRES from public school service. Yes, she had no-longer-paid-for benefits and a pension only SHE contributed to-NOT the state or taxes-but that is hardly an even exchange for 30 years of high pay. I hate, absolutely hate, when people compare highly competent, trained, educated public employees to the overall income of the public. The view is no distorted. They know they are doing it, and it really angers that base that believes this BS. Should have known this would come up as a weapon.

(10,154 posts)They did it to Union workers. They did it with teachers across the country. Scott Walker did it to state workers. It's a way of forcing wages down while feeling self righteous about it.
It is a way of dividing the working class and identifying scapegoats for when the oligarchs abuse us. It is Nothing but a huge lie. A large manipulation that the ever active Russian propaganda machine would be proud of.
I even suspect giantress Ann Coulter got told to play this card by the Russian mob.You don't really believe all those people buy her book do you? Somebody buys them but it ain't common Americans.

(6,843 posts)I'm a fed. I'm a highly technical, highly educated employee. I am underpaid by the government about 40% for a comparable POSITION.
I am senior so I tend to get the big and complicated projects. If actually compared my salary to someone who held similar PROJECTS, I am paid about 10% of what I would be in private industry.
My cousin works for a large engineering company. Compared to me he has better insurance, larger company contributions to this 401K, twore weeks paid vacation, and gets a company car.
Now, I have nice benefits. My health insurance is solid (but just for the record, based upon my contributions and what my employer matches, I could get one of those super premium plans on the exchange), basically I pay more than I should for what I receive.
I get sick leave, vacation, and a small pension (30% of high 3 if I can last 30 years) when I retire. I also get to keep my health insurance until I get Medicare. The government will pay their portion into retirement. That's really the best benefit I gave, and the ONLY one worth sticking around for.
The problem with federal pay comparisons is they include EVERYONE's salary averaged and compare it to feds. So I am compared to a pool that includes retail workers and manual laborers. They use this average to say "See, feds are overpaid". It's wrong because most of the federal workforce are highly educated white collar jobs. When you compare us to our actual peers, we are underpaid.

(15,320 posts)God, the 1% ass-pickles must get raging fucking boners whenever they hear this shit.
Instead of being pissed that they have a shitty fucking 401K and some bullshit healthcare benefits from their own fucking jobs, and asking the 1% why their benefits packages and pension plans suck so fucking much...and maybe preparing the fucking guillotine for the millionaires and billionaires that have just bought their fucking 3RD yacht and 4TH vacation home, they get fucking pissed at their fucking middle class neighbor who makes, maybe a piddly couple thousand more per year then they do, and happen to have a pension and some decent benefits.
Fuck, the 1% must have wet dreams as they envision the fucking sucker making 50K a year with a shitty 401k and crappy benefits, taking his fucking anger out on his neighbor making 52K a year with a decent pension and benefits.
It's fucking maddening!!!!!!!!!
