I didn't take the comment as deliberately rude, I saw it as a spontaneous reaction.
But, I guess that's why somebody invented the other meme that's apropos here: YMMV

(115,677 posts)The deal would include $5.7 billion in funding for see-through steel barriers in certain high priority locations. In exchange, he offered three years for legislative relief for 700,000 DACA recipients, extending their protection from deportation. Trump also offered a three year extension to the legal status of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders.

(81,451 posts)Trump offers 3-year extension of protection for dreamers in exchange for $5.7 billion for wall; Democrats call it a non-starter
By Katie Zezima, Erica Werner and David Nakamura
January 19 at 4:27 PM
President Trump made a new offer Saturday to Democrats aimed at ending the 29-day partial government shutdown that would extend deportation protections for some immigrants in exchange for $5.7 billion in border wall funding.
Trumps proposal is designed to ramp up pressure on Democrats by offering a reprieve on his attempts to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and temporary protected status (TPS) for immigrants from some Latin American and African nations.
Under the new proposal, the administration would allow those programs to continue addressing a key concern of Democrats and some moderate Republicans.
It would also grant hundreds of millions of dollars for humanitarian assistance and drug detection policy and call for the hiring of thousands of new law enforcement agents to be deployed on the southern border.

(25,183 posts)So, will we reject it completely, or at least try to modify it?
Time will tell what our leadership in the Democratic Party will do, and time will tell as to how the blame for the shutdown is distributed.
As for the DACA and TPS protections being only for three years, do we really think that if we give Trump his wall/fence/barrier that it will please enough people to re-elect him? Especially with the reich-wing TV and radio blather telling Trump's base how he sold them out?
regnaD kciN
(26,044 posts)...funding for a border wall that has to be removed in three years.
customerserviceguy
(25,183 posts)But I would expect that if our Democratic leadership takes this up, they will want a bit less barrier money, and a bit more humanitarian aid. Some face-saving for our side, and everybody gets back to work in the government, DACA and TPS beneficiaries get a reprieve while we work to find the very best candidate for our next president, and the reich wing Faux Snooze echo chamber gets to piss off Trump's base by telling them how he sold them out.

(901 posts)No wiggle room there.

(25,183 posts)He can tell his side it's a "wall". We can call it a "fence".
And Ann Coulter can tell Trump's base that he sold them out with DACA and TPS.

No one will change their mind. He hasnt moved the lines of division one inch.
MAGATs still love him and the rest of us still know hes just continuing the big con.
customerserviceguy
(25,183 posts)within a week as to whether our Democratic leadership will at least try to modify the proposal, or reject it outright. And then we will see who gets further blame for the shutdown.
I'm convinced that this is Trump's last best offer. I watched the speech, and he looked very uncomfortable giving it. I have a feeling that Kushner talked him into this, he knows he's going to take some flak from reich-wing talking heads over it. He's probably hoping that our side won't take the deal, even with modifications, and that gets the Kushners' in the White House off his ass.
If this doesn't get things started on resolving the shutdown, it will continue for the next two years. Thinking that Trump will somehow come to the conclusion that he needs to capitulate completely is just insane. He'd rather wreck the entire country that do anything that would so completely deflate that massive ego of his.

(25,183 posts)to see where the polling data will lead.
I know she's massively pissed at Trump right now, and I can understand why, but leaders are not supposed to let their personal feelings get in the way of leading. Trump has no such ability, and is not a real leader, just a "boss'.
lunatica
(53,410 posts)Which is the reason she was initially unpopular with so many Democrats.
As the Majority Leader her job is about being the one who directs the members of the party to back or oppose the President. When Obama was President her job was to make sure the Democrats supported his Administration by voting for the bills he wanted. Conversely her job as the leader is to make sure the party stands firm in opposition to Trumps hateful priorities.
When she or McConnell speak publicly they speak as the leaders of their party members. Not as individual representatives.
customerserviceguy
(25,183 posts)but surely, the Democratic members of Congress will at least be hearing what their constituents have to say about the offer, and some of that might be reflected in polling data.
Waiting for Trump to completely capitulate is hopeless. He knows he was elected as a wrecking ball for the government, and keeping the shutdown going for another two years won't hurt him one little bit.
lunatica
(53,410 posts)In his outrageous demand for the wall in his speech. All he talked about was paying for the wall and some nonsense about DACA. He said nothing about opening the government.
Would you put your trust in him after the latest lie out of thousands of lies?
