Honest to God, I am really getting sick and tired of these caravans. What in the world is this? Just come and push your way into the country? And all of this just happening by itself? Thank you, @realDonaldTrump for standing firm against the un-American #Democrat party. #MAGA

(63,221 posts)They play on women's insecurities about their looks and tell us that feminists are all fat and ugly and will never be attractive to men. It isn't true of course. There are feminists of every size and shape and sort. And it doesn't matter what we look like or if hateful men think we are attractive. There is nothing worse than being treated like a second class citizen.
Besides, who does this dreadful looking man think he is to judge the looks of any woman? Fuck him!

(8,690 posts)The kids were all bused to mass to meet Bishop Foys before they went to the March for Life. This pic of Bishop Foys taken a few yrs ago was on Kid #1's Facebook page before it came down.
Interesting guy, Bishop Foys - no hand holding allowed in certain parts of mass. So, the Covington Diocese paid out millions to over 300 people for sexual abuse by MALE priests. But, FEMALES are not supposed to have an abortion for ANY reason.
Bishop Foys -
Among the points his decree makes: "don't hold hands"

(11,728 posts)Just like Father Caughlin before them, right wing Catholics use doctrine as a cudgel to beat down vulnerable populations. Left leaning Catholics like the Nuns on the Bus reflect the social justice message reflected in the Gospels.

(21,596 posts)They are very conservative, anti-abortion, patriarchal and anti-equal rights.
The one in my community will not allow the Cub Scout Pack, that they sponsor as a charter organization, to accept girls as members, even though Boy Scouts of America now accepts girls into Scouting. The charter organization sponsor church has final say on the matter, even though the Pack leaders and parents wanted to accept girls.

(937 posts)We are not Catholic but we sent our son to a Jesuit high school because of their commitment to social justice. My son spent 4 years on the crew team. There were many boys at the school from wealthy families and the crew team had fancy boats (shells), fancy uniforms, fancy tents etc. I chaperoned trips to away regattas. It was an easy gig as the boys were well behaved and competitive rowing requires a huge amount of training and practice before and after school. It tended to weed out the riff raff. I knew I had picked the right school when I observed the following: we were at a regatta. There was a team competing that was not fancy. They had tee shirts, they had a couple of shells that might have been patched with duct tape, they had no fancy tent. Their rowers would finish last in every event and I mean 3-5 minutes behind the next-to-last person. At the end of the competition, when our coaches had the boys circle up and accolades were handed out etc., the coach told the boys he really regretted what he had to do next. He said he was deeply disappointed to overhear conversations the boys had about the other team. Not that they had been overheard by anyone else-they werent talking loud and mocking. He explained to our boys that they had done nothing to earn their economic status. They had just been lucky enough to be born to the family they were. He talked about how it took a lot of character for the other team to come compete with the odds so stacked against them and compete with dignity. He talked about how instead of behaving like Christians and extending a hand of friendship or an offer of help or anything to the other team, some of our boys had stood to the side being snide. He said unfortunately his words werent enough and he needed them to remember this and never, ever, ever act like that again. He explained they were all being punished because they were all responsible for each others behavior and he wanted them to check each other. They did an hour of grueling exercises and instead of our luxury dinner at the fancy restaurant, the captains walked to a nearby grocery store and bought cheap bread, plastic cheese slices and generic peanut butter and that along with tap water, was dinner. In the 4 years my son was on that team, nothing like that ever happened again.

(8,690 posts)He was never touched, but was observed changing clothes to go for a swim on a campout. Interesting, my high school never took us on campouts.
The schools are among the most recognizable Catholic institutions in New York, with reputations extending far beyond the churchs followers and the citys borders: Xavier, Regis, Brooklyn Prep, Fordham Prep. They educated many in the citys Catholic elite, producing politicians, authors, academics and at least one Supreme Court justice. They regularly appear on lists of New Yorks best Catholic schools.
But on Tuesday, the schools names popped up again and again on a different kind of list: One naming Jesuit priests who were identified by the Society of Jesus as having a history of sexual abuse found to be more likely true than not after investigation.
In some cases, the priests passed through the schools in careers that spanned as many as 30 years.
The lists of accused priests were published by the Jesuit order one after the other in recent weeks, creating rosters of several hundred names. The Society of Jesus, as the Jesuit order is known, is an influential force in the global church; it has more than 16,000 members, including Pope Francis.

(33,284 posts)Northern Kentucky/Covington is basically Cincy.
I grew up Catholic there; lived in an Irish/German Catholic neighborhood on the Irish/German side of town. I know a few of these types; my cousin sent her 2 boys to the same RTL march every year they attended Elder High (where my Dad went to school). It's not a healthy activity for children, least of all teen boys.
This asshole celibate is a perfect example of why my parents left the church, and their children have zero use for it.

Saturday, June 4, 2005
The relatively small Roman Catholic diocese of Covington, Ky., said yesterday that it has agreed to create a record-setting $120 million fund to settle a class-action lawsuit over sexual abuse by priests.
High Number - 10% of all the Covington priests ......... and it look like they get off free, no jail time?
