An electability test that you can apply to any Democratic candidate.

Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by 3,000,000 votes and lost MI. WI. and PA by a mere 70,000 votes and with it the Electoral College. The question than becomes what candidate will do better with the various groups that comprise the electorate and which group will he or she do worse. Given the small number of votes our candidate needs to make up most of them are in a strong position.

Here's the tipping states, imo, in order of difficulty or ease, depending on your perspective:

PA
MI
WI
FL
NC
AZ
GA

TX

'likeable'....because it's often just a popularity contest with a lot of voters. Sad but true.

Sherrod Brown would be good but we lose a Senate seat which we must hold.

I think he not only has the best shot at the top three states on your list, but could also bring along Ohio.

and bury them.

Who turned out for Obama that didn't turn out for HRC? Which candidate motivates that group to show up?

It probably won't be a septuagenarian white man.

Assuming Trump doesn't do better among any group than he did in 016 which imo is a reasonable assumption any opponent doesn't have to do much to win.

I find Kamala Harris intriguing. I believe she won't do worse than Hillary with any group and will do marginally better among POC. That probably adds one or two points to her total. That's the election, it tips PA, MI, and WI. I also think she will do better among women, now that they have seen Trump in all his awfulness, and suburban voters, now that they have seen Trump in all his awfulness.

The bottom five are worth campaigning in some but are fool's gold to spend too much time and money trying to win in a close race.

Whoever becomes the media darling is the next president because there are too many Americans who stopped thinking critically. Trump is president. There was nothing electable about him.
