And of course the press will completely fall for this, asking Dems why they won't "compromise". The press will ignore the fact that these debates can go on, after the government is re-opened. Trump and Mitch are openly using the government as a hostage in a negotiating scheme. And still most of the press ignores this.

Trump took the responsibility for the shutdown.

This clip and quote needs to be embedded into the minds of the American People so that they know that this is a Trump shutdown.

In Trump's own words:

“I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck, because the people of this country don’t want criminals and people that have lots of problems and drugs pouring into our country. So I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it…. I will take the mantle of shutting down.”

3. It is about trying to nullify the midterm election
If the Republicans can compel the house to pass legislation they would otherwise oppose, the election was nearly irrelevant.

I seem to recall the Tea Baggers making a big deal out of bills coming to a vote without any time for everyone to read them. I wonder of any of them are going to come down on McConnell for trying to sneak through a thousand page slab o' legislation?

depts currently closed. Essentially, it's the one bill the House passed to fund all agencies except DHS grafted onto Trump's Sat "proposal".

But, the seeds of how this will end are in there. Last night on MSNBC, Joaquin Castro noted that everyone wants "border security". Shelby's proposal also uses the words "border security". IMHO, there'll be some extra amount of $ for "border security" agreed to by Dems, but Rs will have to give up insisting it's for "a wall".

Most people don't realize that there are 2 parts to government spending. First are the appropriations bills that say how much money each agency gets and for what. Second are the authorization bills that tell the agencies HOW they can spend the money. For ex, DHS can be told it has x dollars for border security and that can be spent to hire agents, immigration judges, technology, repair of existing border fencing, but can't be spent on new construction.
