Just another shutdown anecdote...

I live in the DC metro area. Today I could not get my car out due to a weather problem, so had to take a taxi to--and another, from--work.

Both cabbies told me that their business had dropped to almost nothing. They said this was due not only to federal employees' not using their service, but that the level of tourism had dropped precipitously and that (to my surprise) this time of year typically was pretty good for tourism (from their perspective). So their incomes were badly hurt, and they were very aware of the ripple effect on many other types of employees and contractors.

This shutdown is wrong, immoral, harmful to millions, terrible for the economy, and more.

This shutdown won't end until the rest of the American Public (not the 800,000 furloughed workers) begin to feel the effects of the shutdown and get vocal with their elected representatives.

How many people do the 800,000 interact with? Where do they usually spend the paychecks they are now being denied?

TV keeps talking about the 800,000, but the real figure affected is many millions.

Dh had a conference and we spent a few days ahead of time visiting all the museums and memorials. With stuff shut down now, I wouldn’t want to be there as a tourist.
