There is not reasoning with RWers. It's their way or no way, no in the middle.

(2,275 posts)Yes, the Republicans must be sent to the dustbins of history. Theyre corrupted and dying.
But Democrats must also rise to another challenge which is the slow motion terrorism of the oil industry. And in this case we are all part of the problem since we keep buying SUVs and turning up the heat in our homes and ignoring the recent UN report that we only have 10 years to address global warming, the biggest terrorist threat of all.
So, yes, remove the Republicans from our lives. Then start getting serious about a looming disaster which they might rightly be described as distracting us from addressing.

It was a painfully slow movement that started with Reagan.
it was accompanied by the sonorous thunder of Limbaugh, Coulter, and Hannity,
and it will end appropriately with a perfect Trump.

It certainly would be a cautionary tale for future Chief Executives, though. DON'T BE THAT GUY, because you won't like the penalties that come with being that guy.
I do NOT want him able to retire in pampered luxury with the golden toilets and the golf courses and the continued ability to scam and screw his contractors and subcontractors and lie his ass off - and probably start in on Trophy Wife #4. I DO NOT WANT THAT! I want him to taste consequences, at long last. And not just taste consequences. Force-fed them. Even in his 70s, after an ENTIRE LIFE of cheating and lying and screwing people and not playing by the rules and always getting away with it - up til now, anyway. THAT'S what I want to see ENDED!!!! He needs to be made an example of. NO Get Out Of Jail Free cards for him no matter WHO he has on his legal team.
I want him to pay and pay dearly. I want him even more publicly humiliated than he was yesterday by caving to Nancy Pelosi. I want every historian to come, and even those on that side of the aisle, AND all the Deplorables, too, to curse his name til they breathe their last. I want him to lose and lose BIG, including serious affronts like asset forfeiture and public disgrace and loss of freedom. I want ALL his toys taken away, and never to be recovered by him. There HAS TO be a cost for what he's done - to this country, and the threat he's become to the entire planet at this point.
I want him to have to pay for this shitty, selfish, sneaky, greedy, deceitful, arrogant, opportunistic, willfully ignorant (and proud of it), totally thoughtless and hurtful life he's led. If there are no consequences for that, then he won't EVER learn anything meaningful, and worse: NOBODY ELSE will, either. If he's allowed to skate past this, he'll just become a role model for how to be a shitty, selfish, sneaky, greedy, deceitful, opportunistic, arrogant, willfully ignorant (and proud of it), totally thoughtless and hurtful person and be REWARDED for it!
There MUST be consequences. He's never really faced ANY. In his whole life! And he's in his 70s now! His story needs to be a lesson for us all. And our children. And their children. And THEIR children. And on from there. Now and forevermore, amen, dammit!
On edit - I didn't mean for this to sound like I'm piling on you, scarytomcat. But I just can't stop thinking about all the people he's hurt, and screwed over, and all the needless destruction he's caused, just because baby still demands his bottle after he already had plenty. I can't stop thinking about all the rules he's broken or defied - that others not unlike him, coming up in the years after him, will take as precedent and will feel free to follow that rotten disgraceful pattern-from-Hell so that MORE people are hurt and screwed over, and MORE destruction is caused, because they know they can point to what he did and got away with, so why shouldn't they, too? This has to become a cautionary tale. With a VERY sobering warning as a moral to the story. HAS TO. Even with the shutdown more or less ended, the suffering won't stop, and far too many of our fellow Americans will likely NEVER recover. This shutdown hurt not only 800-thousand federal workers. All the contract workers who aren't entitled to back pay. The small businesses who suffered a huge setback from which they may not be able to recover completely. The TIME that's been lost. The BENEFITS that have been lost. The ground lost, health-wise, by having to cut back or do without necessary meds. The list goes on. And that's only part of the story.
He needs to be held FULLY accountable. And he needs to PAY.

(1,706 posts)maybe if his income dries up. And no one will do business with him. But pence would pardon him and his family. The TV will offer his show back and foreign companies will put his name on buildings, life will go on. I don't see any way to destroy him.

Moreover, last night on Rachel she said that Rs havent appointed any members of the House Intelligence Committee thereby denying the Dems the ability to transact business such as providing Mueller with official transcripts of testimony from witnesses who testified before Dems took control. They are devious, traitors with no honor. Dems must use similar tactics to dismantle the Republican Party and expose and rid it of the cancer that is undermining the country. Nunes, Meadow, Jordan all must be neutralized and exposed. Then Fox needs to be investigated and its comnections to the Russians and the Republican Party. The 1st Amendment does not allow a federally licensed tv station to undermine and divide the country like they have over the past 25 years. Murdoch needs to be hauled in front on Congress to explain how Fox has become the propaganda arm of the Republican Party.

(3,491 posts)I know you said Fox, which does broadcast over the air - but that isnt the channel that has undermined and divided the country. It is Fox News which has done that. Being a cable channel it doesnt need FCC licenses and is not regulated.
They are allowed to be the propaganda wing of the GOP.

(14,488 posts)referring to them as "the billionaires", which really is the core of the party and we've never even heard of most of them.
* they buy elections outright (one in NC years ago particularly comes to mind),
* they fund all the right-wing media organizations like Fox and Sinclaire,
* they fund all the right-wing think tanks that create Republican policy, candidate lists and talking points for media,
* they saturate GOP campaigns with tons of donations every election cycle, and
* their funding is responsible for 100% of right-wing fear-based brainwashing of ~30% of our population.
(to name just a few)
Without them, the Repug party would be in the margins. Surely, somehow this dark web can be exposed.
So, like a cancer, we're really dealing with an invisible enemy that's killing us.......

(58,596 posts)the Repub party has become more and more ruthless, entirely content to destroy established institutions to attain their political ends, which has become nothing more than maintaining their power, with little to no regard for what the people of the country really want.
I'm not an advocate for destroying the Repub Party, I think we need a robust opposition to keep things honest, but they definitely need to be taken down a few notches and taught to really listen to their constituents and stop treating them as serfs.

(535 posts)There does need to be a loyal opposition but that can't happen with right-wing media propaganda calling the shots. If a group of billionaire philanthropists would pool their resources to buy out Faux Noise and shut it down that would go a long way towards fostering a new conservative party that favors America over Russia.

(1,706 posts)he should draw up a bill, get sponsors, have hearings, studies of usefulness, environmental and cost
then get majorities to pass it in both houses NOT demand that a small part of it is tacked on to a spending bill (a continuing resolution bill at that) and shut down the government if he doesn't get his way.
He should learn how too propose legislation and follow procedures, someone needs to inform him how it is done. This the crazy shit you get when you have someone with no governmental experience and thinks he is KING.

(7,142 posts)when he wanted to build the wall? The farmers and ranchers along the border didn't want a wall. They refused to sell their property, they took Bush to court. Bush ended up threatening to take their land by eminent domain and giving them shit for their property. Many of the land owners signed over their land because they were afraid they wouldn't get a fair price if they fought it.
The people along the border don't want a wall.

(9,090 posts)for example if stone doesn't take a deal and ends up in a trial the jury pool is very polluted thanks to team limbaugh's attacks on "the deep state" since inauguration
prosecutors should disqualify jurors if they regularly listen to talk radio but probably won't
the manafort jury was almost hung, all it takes is one dittohead and a random selection is going to get at least 1 who think that the fbi was working for clinton and soros etc
since ameericans are going to ignore the republicans' 1500 coordinated radio stations we're going to have to get lucky - like if mueller finds limbaugh and hannity have been getting russian money, which may not be absurd

(33,241 posts)We need another blue tsunami in 2020 to overcome the obstacles to democracy that are in place. (It wouldn't hurt to have a blue wave this year for the 3 governorships at stake). If we take WH, House, and Senate, some part needs to investigate, indict and imprison those found to have subverted our democracy. Letting bygones be bygones simply encourages the corruption.
