1. Historical precedent & interesting read

They certainly are aligned.

Author & historian Peter Frankopan, author of his recent book called the "Silk Roads" (an impressive historical narrative!) had this surprisingly prescient quote in a section I recently read.

From US Charge D'Affairs of Moscow, who wrote in early 1946:

"At the bottom of the Kremlin's neurotic view of world affairs [...] is the traditional and instinctive Russian sense of insecurity." Therefore, the person concludes the Soviet Union was '"a political force committed fanatically" to engage in competition with the United States to the point that its aim was to ensure 'that the internal harmony of our state be disrupted, our traditional way of life be destroyed [and] the international authority of our state be broken."'

2. The Sino-Russian alliance has been years in the making.

It is called the Shanghai Cooperation Organization...aka SCO.
