GOP Lawmaker Tells Ocasio-Cortez Congress Isn't Just 'Eating Bonbons'

Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows spoke up Tuesday during the first meeting of the newly Democratic-controlled House Committee on Oversight and Reform -- his first joint appearance with Ocasio-Cortez, one of Congress’s newest, most liberal members.

Soon, though, Meadows and other Republicans were telling Chairman Elijah Cummings of Maryland that members should get more than three days’ notice to attend questioning of witnesses by Democratic staff lawyers. Meadows said five days was better, particularly for lawmakers who live far from Washington.

Ocasio-Cortez wasted no time in offering her first remarks on the committee. “I don’t believe we need five days” if lawmakers are doing their jobs, she responded.

Meadows wasn’t going to let that go. Formally directing his remarks to Cummings, he responded: “Mr. Chairman, I can tell you on all of this at this particular point, we’re all wanting to cooperate.” But he said, “Sometimes our schedules, you know, we’re not just sitting around eating bonbons, waiting for the call of anybody.”

Ocasio-Cortez then asked Cummings whether Republicans gave members ample notice for such matters during the last congressional session, when they ran the committee.

“No,” said Cummings, of Maryland.

Isn't Meadows an unindicted co-conspirator in one of the college sexual assault cases?

It's hard to keep track of all the GOP congressmen who are perverts in the caucus that Deny Hastert built, but shouldn't Meadows be doing penance somewhere?

Democrats are giving Republicans three days' notice. If you're in town and doing your job, that should be plenty of time. Besides, what could the House Oversight Committee possibly have to look into after eight years of Republican control? Oh, yeah. Roll up your sleeves and get ready to do some work for a change, Mark.

11. 'Spending her day sitting arnd eating bonbons' is very old claim: women do this, men WORK
Wed Jan 30, 2019, 02:19 AM
Jan 2019

Women sit all day at home, watching TV and eating bonbons while men 'work their butts off to support them'

It also paints a picture of women as FAT and LAZY with NO BRAINS

And--why would my wife want a job? She can sit around at home eating bonbons while I kill myself working long hours to support her.

It's a phrase that codifies the claim that women don't contribute anything to the world/to society.

Also use of the word 'bonbons' is a dead giveaway that it's an old saying. Really, who says bonbons these days?

Vanilla ice cream, chocolate shell. Bite size. Like an ice cream bar but no stick and a lot smaller.

I'm pretty sure the originals were candy, not ice cream. And today's ice cream version probably come in different flavors.

All I know for sure is that you have to be really lazy, way overweight, and just sooooo lucky to be one of the women who gets to lay around eating them. It's like princess-hood fantasy come true.

They are a chocolate candy. Became a way of slurring the rich and well-to-do, and at some point closer to modern times evolved to become used sometimes as a slur against women because they belong at home and are probably lazy so of course that scum-sucker Meadows used the expression to attack AOC. I swear to Dog, the Republican motto has become "At All Times: #BeAwful"

I mean DAMN, I told him about my 'Schedule', with the lack of any Bon-Bons and shit ... I couldn't even believe it ... He was like ... 'pfffft' ... and I was all like 'whatever'!

A whopping 3 members from states west of the Mississippi River.

Republican members:
Jordan, Ohio, Ranking Member
Amash, Michigan
Gosar, Arizona
Foxx, North Carolina
Massie, Kentucky
Meadows, North Carolina
Hice, Georgia
Grothman, Wisconsin
Comer, Kentucky
Cloud, Texas
Gibbs, Ohio
Higgins, Louisiana
Norman, South Carolina
Roy, Texas
Miller, West Virginia
Green, Tennessee
Armstrong, North Dakota
Steube, Florida

Note 6 Dem members are from CA. I think if 3 days is enough for members from the west coast, it's plenty for GOP members nearly all of whom are closer.

Just like the wife sitting at home eating bon bons, when their corporate masters get home, they are going to have to put out to keep their positions - servicing their big donors and giving them access to themselves. Don't forget that part, Mark.

What you forget is that AOC doesn't have corporate masters.

And not letting the pompous GOP idiots get away with crap like they did when they controlled the House. We need more gutsy reps with a titanium spine like her.

And if there are Dems House members rattled by her and calling for a challenger in 2020, they'd better take heed the people of her district know who they elected and want her to stay put. She is exactly what we Dems need - new blood, new ideas, different approach to get things done. They may disagree with her style of leadership, but to try to railroad her when she's getting things done is unconscionable.
