(1,898 posts)Why more independents don't feel as outraged as we do by McConnell is beyond me. The good news is that, we already have seen Speaker Pelosi introduce legislation which our presidential nominee can use as red meat to energize voters, which spills over to congressional campaigns.

(6,163 posts)Case in point. SCOTUS seat stolen from Obama and filled by Gorsuch.
Republicans have one overriding rule. It's, if you can't win by using the current system change it to fit your needs.

(5,995 posts)Therefore anything they do to seize and retain power only has political implications and has nothing to do with race, color, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or any other protected or sensitive population group.
Fair and open processes have a clear and illegal Democratic bias.
SCOTUS used equal protection clause to stop the FL recount; if they counted all the disputed votes W loses and because the Dems didn't ask for a statewide recount they stopped all the counting while Bush was still ahead. They also ruled that you have to prove voter suppression cause harm to particular individuals before any changes can be required, no preclearance required.

(18,612 posts)It's not just the Republican politicians that want to keep billionaires and lobbyists running the government.
Your average Republican voter doesn't want to change these things either.
Wealthy Republican voters are aligned with these groups and want to keep it this way.
Less wealthy voters, vote simply on a few particular, selfish issues.
They like the fact that the current system allows Republicans to keep their own issues in play.
They are fine with the government being driven by special interests as as long as they get what they want.
If it comes along with things they don't want, it's a sacrifice they are glad to make.
Republican voters are not moved by appeals to honesty, democracy, support of the American people.
They vote only on personal, selfish interest and if Republicans can keep providing that they will keep voting Republican.

(22,665 posts)Might as well just come to the floor of the senate with Russian born Len Blavatnik by your side and complain about how you and your fellow anti-Americans...
..."lifted sanctions on three Russian companies tied to Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, who is a close ally of Vladimir Putin. Deripaska was also a business partner with Paul Manafort, who was Donald Trumps 2016 presidential campaign chairman. Manafort was convicted of bank fraud and tax evasion tied to Russia and also pleaded guilty to conspiracy.
Blavatnik, whose family emigrated to the U.S. in the late 1970s, is a longtime business associate of Russian oligarchs Oleg Deripaska and Viktor Vekselberg, both of whom have ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Along with McConnell, Republican Senators Marco Rubio and Lindsey Graham received hefty sums from Blavatnik as well."

(3,321 posts)This is not surprising. If every eligible American voted, the Republicans would lose every election. Republicans are oligarchs and plutocrats - democracy just isn't their thing.
