My fave coffee continues to be Douwe Egbert. None better imo.

That is why so much stuff in the grocery store is shorterm addictive. If you eat 10 chips, food executives have flavorists figure out how to get you to eat the bag, that way next time you buy 2 bags or buy the super-sized much costlier bag.

(31,261 posts)So you are ok with putting Starbucks workers on the unemployment line? For what? Who is to say the coffee shops that pick up the slack aren't owned by Trump loving rightwingers that have enough sense to serve liberals that they loath coffee and keep their mouths shut about their Trump love?
Hopefully Schultz has someone, a wife, kids, siblings, ect, that are close to him and can do an intervention on his ass. If not, we can't repeat 2000 and 2016, our voters must stay with our nominee to eliminate a greater evil.

(31,261 posts)Here in my neck of the woods, it's Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts or diners that cater to the old south types.
It is one thing to have a vision of the perfect. It is another thing entirely to have that vision play out as desired in a society.

Schultz is a billionaire. A boycott wouldnt phase him.

(46,166 posts)There were jobs in coffee shops all over the country before Starbucks and there would be if Starbucks ever went under. The damage that Starbucks did was to put family coffee shops out of business. Same as Walmart and Amazon.
Btw, I decided to stop shopping at Amazon last year and have found everything locally that I used to buy at Amazon. And guess what? There are people working in all those stores I now frequent.
lunatica
(53,410 posts)shopping all over the place when you have tendonitis like I do. Its a painful permanent condition which restricts my physical ability so I shop Amazon, and I also order my larger grocery purchases through Instacart.
So you see, Amazon serves a purpose which makes life easier for handicapped people, but long ago I realized that the needs for handicapped people are non existent for physically fit people, especially if the handicap Isnt visible.

(46,166 posts)We have our share of debilitating issues at our house. When we absolutely have to go with mail order we've found everything we need from small company sellers online. We were surprised at how easy it was to transition to small businesses. We're committed to quit supporting oligarchs as best we can. Take care.

(53,410 posts)I dont do Starbucks, but I do get employment or the lack thereof.
Starbucks popularized lattes, Fraps etc.
Oh and I live in an area with 3 plus million people. There were no coffee shops prior to Starbucks in Phoenix, not ONE.

(37,999 posts)Look, the man is horrid and I know that even though he is no longer CEO of the company, he still gets money from them. BUT! Jobs aren't easy to come by, even entry level jobs. The people that get service jobs are usually financially insecure where even a week without work means disaster.
I agree. CANCEL HOWARD SCHULTZ. But leave the working folk out of it.

if Shultz losses he will go back to Starbucks and we will have trump for another 4 destructive years... no way.
finally, other coffee shops will be hiring to meet new demand.

(6,110 posts)Cola does not bother me, neither does tea, nor beer. But if i drink coffee 2 days in a row, on 3rd day morning I wake up with stomach pains.
So Starbucks is something I avoid like a plague. Their coffee is way too strong.

(15,285 posts)To win a majority of electoral college votes, which Schultz says would be his goal, he would have to ultimately replace the Democratic nominee as the favored choice of voters who do not want Trump to win a second term.
In practice, this has led Schultz to focus far more of his initial fire on Democrats than Trump He has particularly focused on attacking the Democratic Partys more-liberal wing.
Any viable route for Schultz requires, first and foremost, an aggressive effort to split the majority of Americans who have already concluded Trumps presidency is a failure, or worse, a rolling disaster.
The fact that this strategic imperative requires Schultz to make lopsided attacks on Democrats reveals the deep cynicism at the core of his whole argument.

I have $41 on a gift card that was given to me as a promotional thing. So, when I use it, or costs them money.
Once the card is empty, then I'll stop patronizing them.
