What are you doing during the game?

...it may be considered un-American by some, but I really don't care about football...I enjoyed playing sports as a kid, but today all I see in football are millionaires employed by billionaires playing a kid's game...and we, directly or indirectly, get to pay for it all...

...it's sort of the feeling I have about the lottery...I have yet to buy my first lottery ticket...if I was to participate, I couldn't escape the feeling of being played for a sucker...

...so, I think I may take a long car ride now that the cold spell has snapped, or maybe just go out to eat with Grandma, who like me, doesn't give a rat's ass about organized capitalist sports...

...but whatever you do, for heaven's sake, enjoy yourself...

Kidding...the stores have been having sales on "game food for the big day" for two weeks now. But I had to google to find out the time so I can answer your question. That would be suppertime and usually MSNBC followed by some computer time and then Netflix or other movie-type entertainment for the evening. Only watch sports when forced to it.

I've loved that show since I was in 1st grade. That's one of the few things I remember my whole family agreeing on. My mom would pick us up after school at 3, and usually hit 100mph on the country road to make sure we all got in front of the tv right when the "previously on" bit ended.

In the 90's, SciFi ran 2 a day, I taped and watched the whole thing then. That was the first time I'd seen the pre-Barnabas episodes.

A while back, I found the complete DVD set at one of those antique / flea market places for $100 so I splurged on it. It is in nearly perfect condition. Since then it has been my Sunday evening habit to watch a few episodes. I'm up to #787 now, in the 1896 flashback with Quentin, Count Petofi etc. I remember watching those in 4th grade.

In the early 2000's, I went to one of the Dark Shadows conventions in New York City, That was really fun.

The box is shaped like a coffin, and when opened, there's a picture of Barnabas laying there printed on the spines of the disc boxes.

Lara Parker & Jonathan Frid were about the only living ones who weren't there. It may have been one of the best ones, and last ones, which I didn't know at the time. The original actors went on stage and did a reading of "return to collinwood". It was pretty cool. David Selby & Kathryn Leigh Scott were the most public, she autographed a poster of Barnabas & Josette.

I realized I haven't gotten any Dark Shadows mailings for a long time. Probably don't have conventions anymore, not many actors remain.

But tonight I will be making an obscene hamburger and watching the game. I really don’t have much of a problem with the NFL outside of the fact that teams often end up being subsidized by the community and the gentrification that can occur from building stadiums. They at least talk about the gentrification aspect when choosing spots these days. Baseball is often worse in that area.

I hear the cool kids act like they aren’t even aware of a major sporting event that takes place every year. Other than to comment “what game” multiple times every year.

Sun Feb 3, 2019, 03:59 PM

We are in the low 50's, today, and having a major melt. After the big snow fall, I guess the plow guy needed to make a REALLY WIDE TURN on the road, in order to get a sufficient amount of snow to block my drive way. So he completely missed clearing the road, by the curb. So, the storm drains were about 90% blocked, causing a big problem at the end of my driveway.

That's a change from past years when he got that surfeit of snow and ice by plowing over my lawn.

Right now I'm reading "Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles" by Margaret George, one of my favorite authors.

Books of hers that I've already read:
"The Memoirs of Cleopatra"
"Mary Called Magdalene"
"The Autobiography of Henry VIII"

Books of hers that are on my shelf, waiting to be read:
"Helen of Troy"
"The Confessions of Young Nero"
"Elizabeth I"

Have a great evening, everyone!!!

There's also an interview he did last week with retired NE Pats player Martellus Bennett and his company The Imagination Agency that is well worth listening to.

It’s great for people who love science. And he gives credit to people who have other YouTube science channels, so I’m learning about a whole bunch of interesting options.
