...it may be considered un-American by some, but I really don't care about football...I enjoyed playing sports as a kid, but today all I see in football are millionaires employed by billionaires playing a kid's game...and we, directly or indirectly, get to pay for it all...
...it's sort of the feeling I have about the lottery...I have yet to buy my first lottery ticket...if I was to participate, I couldn't escape the feeling of being played for a sucker...
...so, I think I may take a long car ride now that the cold spell has snapped, or maybe just go out to eat with Grandma, who like me, doesn't give a rat's ass about organized capitalist sports...
...but whatever you do, for heaven's sake, enjoy yourself...

Even my husband says he's not too excited over it this year, and he's a pretty big football fan.
I agree, it's way too hyped up, it's become political now with the standing-for-the-flag issue, i can't stand the objectification of women acting like teenage cheerleaders, and I hear Dumpy is going to be interviewed right before? Who needs all that??!

(42,279 posts)Kidding...the stores have been having sales on "game food for the big day" for two weeks now. But I had to google to find out the time so I can answer your question. That would be suppertime and usually MSNBC followed by some computer time and then Netflix or other movie-type entertainment for the evening. Only watch sports when forced to it.

(1,761 posts)Never stopped watching after that. Even when it didnt make sense anymore. Bought the box set several years ago and saw the beginning episodes for the first time. I never knew who Bill Malloy was but I loved the actor. Had a crush on david the first time around...wish I had more time to watch but i dont iron anymore. (10,429 posts)I've loved that show since I was in 1st grade. That's one of the few things I remember my whole family agreeing on. My mom would pick us up after school at 3, and usually hit 100mph on the country road to make sure we all got in front of the tv right when the "previously on" bit ended.
In the 90's, SciFi ran 2 a day, I taped and watched the whole thing then. That was the first time I'd seen the pre-Barnabas episodes.
A while back, I found the complete DVD set at one of those antique / flea market places for $100 so I splurged on it. It is in nearly perfect condition. Since then it has been my Sunday evening habit to watch a few episodes. I'm up to #787 now, in the 1896 flashback with Quentin, Count Petofi etc. I remember watching those in 4th grade.
In the early 2000's, I went to one of the Dark Shadows conventions in New York City, That was really fun.
lilactime
(657 posts)I'd love to have the whole series on DVD because you never know when Amazon will yank shows. And it's made for binge watching.
I always wanted to go to one of those conventions! Did you get to meet any of the actors?
FoxNewsSucks
(10,429 posts)The box is shaped like a coffin, and when opened, there's a picture of Barnabas laying there printed on the spines of the disc boxes.
Lara Parker & Jonathan Frid were about the only living ones who weren't there. It may have been one of the best ones, and last ones, which I didn't know at the time. The original actors went on stage and did a reading of "return to collinwood". It was pretty cool. David Selby & Kathryn Leigh Scott were the most public, she autographed a poster of Barnabas & Josette.
I realized I haven't gotten any Dark Shadows mailings for a long time. Probably don't have conventions anymore, not many actors remain.

(657 posts)I was hooked by the time I had to go back to school (9th grade). What really kills me is the end of these shows they often have the original voiceover promo for the show that came on next - Where The Action Is - and it makes me want to see that again sooooo badly.

(3,259 posts)But tonight I will be making an obscene hamburger and watching the game. I really dont have much of a problem with the NFL outside of the fact that teams often end up being subsidized by the community and the gentrification that can occur from building stadiums. They at least talk about the gentrification aspect when choosing spots these days. Baseball is often worse in that area.
I hear the cool kids act like they arent even aware of a major sporting event that takes place every year. Other than to comment what game multiple times every year.

(26,259 posts)We are in the low 50's, today, and having a major melt. After the big snow fall, I guess the plow guy needed to make a REALLY WIDE TURN on the road, in order to get a sufficient amount of snow to block my drive way. So he completely missed clearing the road, by the curb. So, the storm drains were about 90% blocked, causing a big problem at the end of my driveway.
That's a change from past years when he got that surfeit of snow and ice by plowing over my lawn.
