Same. It's not really a tax cut when you have to borrow for it at exhorbitant interest rates MaryMagdaline Feb 2019 #7

Ya pay more in taxes. I'm Canadian and even I darn well knew how many average hardworking people were going to get hosed. At the time I really wished that everyone who would be affected would pay attention, but they weren't. They were merely trying to survive and living their lives, I know, but it would've been great if they'd looked into things at the time and protested in some way. At least they would've known it was coming.

I've been wondering during which month this year people would finally realize what was done to them 1 1/2 yrs ago!

Remember when Donnie Two Scoops, Paul, Mitch and the rest of the geriatric white men's league, were all smiles in the Rose Garden after passing it? If people knew then what they realize now, it would've had a different response, wouldn't it? Betcha lots of people want to smack the smiles off all those faces now !

Didn’t vote for him the first time either!

I mentioned on another thread that dh and I made more last year - more than we will likely make in a year for the rest of our careers; it was an unusual set of circumstances.

For that marked increase in income, we owe an extra $800 in taxes. And for the first time in YEARS we don’t dip our toes into the alternative minimum tax, which means they managed to slip that little gift in there for high income earners.

We do owe about $1200 more in state taxes. Not shocking.

We pay more than $30K in state and local taxes and we use to deduct those plus mortgage interest and charitable deductions. We used to claim about $50K in itemized deductions and now only get $24K raising our taxable income by $26K.

We used to get a small refund that we would use for vacation. Not this year. I'm going to let the place know that we rented (we will get our deposit back) that we can't go because our tax bill was so high.

Not a lot more, but I was afraid I would have to pay. I have no idea why, because I am firmly on the low end of middle class. I received my refund last Friday.

I expect to pay more because we took in a few thousand more and I didn't adjust the quarterly payments, but I'm still nervous about things we used to deduct that might not be deductible anymore.
