For some reason, all these years, I thought it had something to do with testing my prostate or gonads or something (probably becuase they conducted it either right before or after "That Test"...).
Who knew?

(58,436 posts)believe it came from Bruce Catton's Army of the Potomac series. Some of the younger voluteers would write the number 17 on a piece of paper and put it in their shoe. That way, when asked if they were "over 17" they could say "yes, sir" without lying.
