(58,785 posts)This was on a 2012 opinion piece by Thomas Mann and Norman Ornstein, leading off with a Republican congressman claiming there are 78 to 81 Democrats in Congress who are members of the Communist Party." They pointed out that they'd never seen congress so dysfunctional.
They hadn't seen nothing yet, of course, and titled their 2016 book "It's Even Worse Than It Looks: How the American Constitutional System Collided with the New Politics of Extremism"
Let's just say it: The Republican Party is now trying to destroy our democracy.
And we're the good guys who aren't going to let them.

(58,785 posts)what their party has become are, shockingly, proven willing to support genuinely evil and increasingly authoritarian actions by powerful, oppressive governments --as long as they're run by their leaders.
As for the leaders, the political survival, personal fortunes, and even freedom of too many now depends on their taking over government. Democracy itself is a grave danger to them.
Scary.

(37,442 posts)...right up until that article was published. Then they vanished. Blackballed. The producers who schedule guests for shows all simultaneously "accidentally" deleted them from their contacts lists.
"Liberal media" my ass.

(11,885 posts)Because they were already so corrupted, and easy to threaten to expose, and throw money at to compromise them even more, and from holding that against them. Putin has taken advantage of us for allowing them to get to that point without holding them accountable, and become such an easy target for them to use and manipulate, like they've easily done to trump. They reeled trump in by giving him more ,and more money they knew he wouldn't be able to pay back, then tightened their noose on him.

(11,885 posts)But putin is taking advantage of all the corruption now, and using it against us. He's infiltrating our government and doing like he did in russia. There only the businesses he wants prospers, and he skims from them or outright takes them over to personally profit from. Its moving from businesses to one person here now, if its not stopped. The Koch's are already running away from trump . trump is also doing like putin did trying set up HIS system of justice where he becomes the judge, the jury , and the executioner, again like Putin has done in russia. Lets hope this trend is stopped.
