The breadth of a hair

That’s the new, Oval Office Distance introduced by Donald Trump. It’s the distance between him and the absolute rule he seeks, between him and a mob boss, between him and a traitor. A hair’s breadth.

His enablers support kidnapping children, secret meetings with known foreign enemies, dismantling of treaties and government institutions. They cheer when Trump mocks a disabled person, when he promises to take away health care, or when he threatens reporters. That hair’s breadth is narrow enough for supporters to jump over now, maybe the first easy access many of them ever had.

I worry about this. I stare at it and wonder.....how? How did this happen? I thought we had measures “in place”, and rules to run things. I didn’t know Devin Nunes would make secret midnight trips to the White House. I didn’t know Ivanka Trump would be in charge of lifting women up while she sells shoes, or that Jared would operate World Peace Headquarters while he worked on plans for Trump Tower Moscow. I didn’t know ineptitude would be a prerequisite for heading our important agencies or that truth isn’t truth and collusion never colludes. A hair’s breadth between all of them and total chaos.

Without romanticizing the past, I yearn for order and standards. It would be wonderful to be able to count on certain things again, and to see a thousand dumpsters filled with MAGA hats.

MAGA hats are replacing KKK hoods. We got thugs in our country, we need to change that. We have the numbers and we will not do this

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the message was lost.
For want of a message the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

Here's a cross post of the song that I posted in the Music Appreciation group. I think it is one of his best.

I was thinking about the same sentiment you're referencing here. I think I read somewhere that the actual parable comes from Thomas Jefferson, but I don't have a reference for that.

There may still be a few guys like him in the media. Sinclair Lewis figured out the importance of TV before it was real but it's a shame he had no idea about the Twitter.

Because if it's length, he's got about a foot and a half of cotton candy fluffed up on top of his head. His basket weave combover probably take a hour to create every morning before his executive time starts.

Note their idea of the rules governing regime change in Venezuela.

Their support of assassins like Putin and Saudi Arabia's MBS.
