UNROLLED:
The National Enquirer admitted to participating in an illegal scheme to pay off women to help Trump get elected.
Then it threatened to publish Jeff Bezos' dick pics.
WTF is the National Enquirer still doing in checkout aisles across the country?
It's not a magazine. It's, at best, a gonzo political operation. It may be a criminal enterprise.
The National Enquirer exists because chains promote it. 75% of sales come from major chains.
@Walmart alone accounts for 23% of sales. @kroger is 10%
Along with @Walmart and @kroger, other top retailers of the National Enquirer:
@GiantFood
@FoodLion
@Albertsons
@Safeway
@BNBuzz (Barnes and Noble)
@CVSHealth
@Hudson_News
@Publix
@Walgreens
These companies are enabling the National Enquirer.
Bezos situation is not an aberration. @RonanFarrow says he was threatened while reporting on a hush money payment to a man who said he had damaging info on Trump.
Now that big chains know how AMI operates, can they ethically be in business with them?
The National Enquirer's parent company, AMI, also placed a 96 page glossy tribute to Saudi Arabia on the shelves of these same stores.
It's a mess.

I drop them face down on the floor. And in my NE state, the floor is filthy. So no harm done.

(3,283 posts)1. When in line at the check out and have a little wait,
I always pick up the Inquirer, pretend to be interested, then put it back backwards. Petty, I know, but I never feel bad.

(22,114 posts)3. Good. Time to shut this piece of garbage down, now that we truly know how they act,
without regard for human dignity and regard for the well being of others. Threatening to bribe or extort anyone that takes a stand against their corruption and filth. Time to shut them down! I plan on complaining to CVS and/or Walgreens in my area...I don't have the other retailers but I have them. Thanks.

I'm afraid the nuance required in trying to explain what's at the root of their awfulness will require more effort than it's actually worth.
