A Scientist Who Resisted Trump Administration Censorship of Climate Report Just Lost Her Job

“I wouldn’t do anything different, but Jesus, this is stressful.”

For several years, climate change scientist Maria Caffrey led a trailblazing study outlining the risks of rising seas at national parks. She’s now out of a job.

Caffrey, who worked under a contract with the National Park Service, resisted efforts by federal officials to remove all references to human causes of climate change in her scientific report. After Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting reported the attempts at censorship, Democratic members of Congress called for an investigation, and in May, the park service released the report with all the references reinstated.
<snip>

Caffrey’s career boom and bust exemplify the difficult situation many scientists face as President Donald Trump’s administration tries to suppress research on topics that he doesn’t consider a priority. Columbia Law School’s Sabin Center for Climate Change Law has reported 194 examples of the federal government censoring, hindering, or sidelining climate change science since Trump was elected. - MotherJones

Her contract was let to expire.

I am sick over it! Could I detest the fucking moron, the GOP and the cult that supports him any more than I already do? I do not think it is possible since I already am at 100% on the HATE meter.

Much easier to avoid the anger and stress, and just disengage.

That's what these evil bastards are counting on.

Unfortunately, there's probably not much of a private sector alternative for a climate scientist.

All of this shit is for oil, coal, and natural gas money. From Putin to MbS, and all their little puppets in the GOP, it's all done to remove any idea of restricting CO2 emissions, just to sell more fossil fuels.

He suppresses any research/science that don't fall in line with his twisted, distorted, warped, divorced-from-reality ideology.

I have nightmares about the damage he has wrought at DOE, where the exodus of top scientists and researchers has been significant. I shudder to think what will be uncovered at DOE after he is removed from office.

but it shouldn't be that way. They shouldn't fire scientists just because they don't like the results of studies.

Sounds like it was pretty hostile environment at the park service as soon as Trump's people took over.

And any company with a conscience is going to snatch her up.

I do worry about the fact that Rump and his merry band of climate change deniers is able to enforce a strict "no actual science" policy.
