Re Nunes' presence at the Gang of 8 briefing on the Russia investigation, McCabe says in the book: "I looked at Rod (Rosenstein). Rod said, At the end of the day it's his recusal. it's his choice, I can't enforce it. We can't kick him out of the room."
We had to cut this for length, but McCabe told me that his guess is that the White House "immediately knew the steps I took after Jim got fired, and the cases I opened" because of Nunes. "When I was surprised to see Nunes at the briefing, I knew it would happen very quickly."
And here is what McCabe says about this in the book: "Now that the Gang of Eight was a crowd of two dozen in the room, I thought, the chance of this not getting back to the president was basically zero. Then Devin Nunes walked in, and the chance was less than zero."

(4,006 posts)This is just one example of how Mueller is ensuring all the facts come out in advance of his final report now headed for Barr's office. He's set the stage to get us, the electorate and anyone who gives a damn all the details, links, connections, etc. even if Barr and Trump refuse to allow the final FBI report out even to Congress, let alone the public.
Keep in mind too all the indictments so far carry tons of details, all carefully crafted to minimize the loss of any facts if the final rpeort is delayed, altered, blocked, whatever.
Smart, indeed!

(4,599 posts)The TV criminal drama lover in me can't help but wonder if these statements are a way of drawing a specific target out, pushing their buttons and forcing them to make an indictable mistake. Surely not everyone involved on Dump's side was a complete mouth-breathing moron. There has to be a few who covered their ass well.

(586 posts)I hadn't even thought of that yet!! Very smart! So even if the report is hidden or if they try to end the investigation, they won't be able to hide info that has already been reported in the press!
Good strategy!

But Karma has a way of catching up. Trumps is past due.

"FBI agents are trained to identify and mitigate threats, and it's clear that ... McCabe was worried about a potential national security threat."

(82,849 posts)Everyone who knows the procedures for proper governance keep getting fired, while the folks who don't have a clue and are running around willy-nilly violating proper procedure and ethical conduct keep on and on.
Though it would be really nice if just a few of those people who know how things are supposed to work would speak up while they're in a position to do something about it, rather than waiting for their book tour.
