*** Official "I will vote for whoever the Dem candidate is" thread ***
It is time for solidarity, not infighting.
Personally I don't really care very much who gets the Democratic nomination. They ALL are a gazillion times better than what we have. In fact my biggest concern is how they would stack up against Trump. So, whether the nominee is Corey Booker, or Kamala Harris, or Elizabeth Warren, or Amy Klobuchar, or Kirsten Gillibrand, or Julian Castro, or Jerry Brown, or Eric Holder, or Joe Biden, or Hillary Clinton, or Mickey Mouse, I will march down to the polling station and gladly cast my ballot for that person. and I will encourage others to do so. And yes, if Bernie Sanders is nominated at the Democratic candidate, I will gladly do the same. Civil discussion about why you prefer one over the other is good. Finger pointing, blaming, and demonizing ANY of these potential candidates does NOT help the cause or our ultimate goal. "Rec" if you agree.

1. Kamala Harris
I like her position on the Green New Deal (https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2019/02/15/kamala_harris_on_green_new_deal_the_principles_behind_it_are_sound_and_important.html).
I like it that she no longer accepts donations from corporate PACs (https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/384408-kamala-harris-will-no-longer-accept-corporate-pac-money). |

2. Hands down, no doubt, cross my heart, I give my 100% guarantee
I have my "GREAT!!" list and my "Well, maybe it won't come to this" list, which is VERY small. And I still have my "Wish" list.
From this point, on, I'm ignoring posts that are obviously meant to trash one candidate or another, but if a post is meant to make points as to why I should consider a candidate, I'm going to pay attention. |

142. Heh, heh! That didn't last long, did it?
On a thread that encourages folks to consider each candidate based upon merit and policies, here's a reply that doesn't promote anyone. It merely reflects a personal reason for not voting for someone. Whatever the validity of that bias, whatever the reason or reasons for not voting for someone, such a statement negates the purpose of the thread. I can't speak for others but I'm not one bit interested in why you wouldn't/won't support or vote for Bernie but I would be interested to know whom you do favor and for what reasons.

215. We're lucky to have such a smorgasbord of talent.
Just because your favorite isn't nominated, that doesn't mean they can't still serve the country admirably in the administration of an eventual Democratic president.
My wish is that at every debate the candidates all express support for each other and have meaningful positive conversations about issues they wish to focus on and goals they hope to achieve. I don't want to watch the trash-talking McDonald kicked up in the Repub debates. |

We have such a deep bench. Poor republicans are stuck in the rut of their own making. I'm happy to see so many well qualified candidates. I believe the debates and discussions leading up to the primaries will be valuable and informative as long as we don't become divisive and self defeating.

Heard a national poll on MSNBC stating more of the general public support Biden.
I love both of these candidates' spunk. Is my memory failing or do I correctly recall Pres. Obama holding Joe back a few times when he was voicing strong opinions?? Joe, if I recall, often took a harsher tone with the rethugs than did his good friend. I like Warren a LOT but she doesn't seem to have the gravitas that Harris does. |

I believe we should not attack anyone running as a Democrat at this point. Disagreeing with a position on an issue aside, we should let the Primary develop and support the one we like best without tearing down the others. Bernie is a very polarizing figure on this site, way more than I believe is deserved, but with the Republicans and what they have done, we need a solid front and not let them divide us.

So tired of the Bernie attacks. I must agree with you on that. I am too! It's very tiresome and demoralizing to hear someone saying that the Democrats are "ideologically bankrupt" and "corrupt".
They play into the foreign attacks on our system to divide us. I know what you mean. It's very divisive to hear attacks that claim that the Democratic party is "the party of the elite" and that Democrats represent "the one percent"... when nothing could be further from the truth.
Fact of the matter is that NONE of the above are true... but the repeated attacks like that on Democrats and the Democratic party definitely cause division, resentment and suspicion. It certainly isn't the kind of thing to motivate people to support the Democratic party (either with their vote, or their time, or their donations). All I'm saying is that this just plays into the myth that "both parties are the same"... and that's simply not true. But with enough repetition, people begin to believe it and they have no reason to vote for Democrats at all. Sadly that weakens the party, and a weakened Democratic party only serves to benefit the GOP, and Trump, and Russia. ![]() |

28. Good sentiments. We are, however, just beginning the primary season.
Like a year early.
As time goes by, leaders will emerge. Some of us will fall in love with one leader, and some for another. There will be infighting as surrogates for one spread partial truths about the others, or even (alas!) lies. People will get angry. They will argue. And the media will work very, very hard to amplify every little faux 'controversy' for the sake of increased ratings and more shareholder profits. Super Pacs will begin spreading lies and half-truths, and the corporate owned media will eagerly grasp the ad revenues. And you and I will get barraged with emails, direct mails and telephone calls begging us for donations. Then someone will win. THAT IS WHEN WE ALL NEED TO FORGET THE SHIT AND GET BEHIND THEM, WHEN WE MUST DO ALL WE CAN TO ENSURE THEY ARE ELECTED. WHEN WE MUST DO ALL WE CAN TO SEE DEMS ELECTED AT ALL LEVELS. |

44. I think primaries should be pretty bloody.
"Finger pointing, blaming, and demonizing ANY of these potential candidates does NOT help the cause or our ultimate goal. "
These are things are viewed different by each individual. I was a big Clinton backer. I know that many Clinton backers around me thought that discussing her Iraq war vote was counterproductive and was just an attempt to demonize her. I thought it was fair game and an important part of her political history. I think talking about Gabbards appearant affection for brutal dictators to be fair game in a primary. Others don't. I think discussing Sanders past literary work that involves rape fantasies and his refusal to release full tax returns to be fair debate. Others don't. "It is time for solidarity, not infighting." Primaries are the exact time for infighting. The general, or the point at which the nominee is known, is the time for solidarity. Out of all current announced candidates there isn't one I wouldn't vote for in the general. K&R |

He is a valuable voice who has clearly proposed many good ideas, some of which are now being adopted by other Dem candidates, and most of his ideas I agree with and support. he is very careful not do anything to threaten the dem party or it's candidate if it is not him. if he doesn't get the nomination, there is zero chance he will run independent. the rules allow him to get on the ticket and run as a Dem. i have no problem with it. if he is nominated i will gladly vote for him in the general election. |

79. It's about THE CENTER
A percentage of voters will vote for the Republican candidate no matter who s/he is.
A percentage of voters will vote for the Democratic candidate no matter who s/he is. The secret to victory is (1) turn out your base, and, (2) WIN THE CENTER. This is the problem with the likes of (an unnamed old geezer) whose sole function is to "drive all the other candidates to the left." We Democrats do not need to be driven to the left. We need to be driven to the CENTER. Because: -- The Center supports legal, readily-available abortion -- The Center supports tolerance toward minorities and LGBT -- The Center has no use for Trump and Trump clones -- The Center supports some form of national health insurance -- The Center supports extended background checks, bans on bump stocks, and other serious gun control -- The Center supports green energy -- The Center supports public education -- The Center is the middle class who recognize they are in trouble and who want help that only Democrats can give We do not need any candidate who "drives Democrats to the left." We need a solidly centrist candidate because The Center supports what we support. |

82. of course!!
you wouldn't be much of a democrat to do anything else! Voting for a republican would be insane! And even if you like an independent, let's be real, no independent is ever going to win unless things change in a dramatic way. To vote for someone who has no chance of winning would be similar to voting for a republican since it's 1 less vote the democratic candidate would get!
Personally I like Harris, I think she would make a great president! But I will vote whoever the democratic candidate is. |

147. In the past, I "voted the candidate" and not the party
But today, with margins so thin, we have to keep the Dems in charge. And that means holding majorities in legislative houses (because the majority usually gets the leadership positions and can control the schedule and agenda). And that means voting Democratic no matter what.
Ideological purity has to take a back seat to party affiliation at times like this. When Dems have a 2/3-rds majority in a body, then go ahead and vote hyper-lib and risk losing a seat here and there to make our point. (In the 80's I voted Green a whole lot here in CA.) But, I have been putting some of my lefty impulses in check as of late so we can counteract the unbelievable rightward swing of the Republican calamity. And that means occasionally supporting a moderate Dem over a far left one so we have a candidate who can beat most Repubs. I know this will get me flamed. But, so be it... |

Heck, I would vote to close the office of the presidency and tell congress everything is automatically vetoed for the next four years rather than keep what we have now. Trump is way worse than nothing. I know that's silly, but I'm kidding on the square as Al Franken used to say on his Air America show. I really like this group of candidates that we have. Compare them to all the republican candidates from 2015 and you can truly see how much better our side is. Go Dems!

171. There is a lot of baggage among rank and file democrats left over from 2016.
I really hope we can move on -- beyond Bernie, Hillary, even Biden. Bernie has made tremendous contributions to our ideas about what we really should be trying to accomplish as a nation. Biden is loved, but a year older than I am. I'm very healthy. I plan to play pickleball for at least eight more years, but to do the job of president? For eight years? For four years, then another wide open election? I hope we can move on. We have a whole bunch of great younger candidates.
I am very impressed with Kamala Harris, but absolutely open minded. I worry about people from the Northeast -- too many big banks, insurance companies, etc. I'm not talking about electability; I'm talking about donations, loyalties, and influences; I'm talking about what they would DO. I want to see resumes. I want to assess personalities and communication skills. I want to assess character and integrity. I want to assess wisdom and judgement. OBVIOUSLY, I want someone very different from Trump and every other Republican I can think of. I want a Democrat. |

It's such a strong field. I'm leaning towards Harris, but there are so many good candidates. His policies and priorities are right on, and he speaks so articulately, down to earth and solid. Booker, same. It's hard not to be just generally enthusiastic.

204. I'm liking Pete Buttigieg
I've heard him interviewed a couple times on NPR and seen him interviewed on PBS. Liked what I saw and heard.
Whoever runs against Trump will get my vote. If multiple people run against Trump, the most likely winner will get my vote. Trump must be defeated, it's the primary objective. |

208. I hereby promise that I will vote for the Democrat nominee for president,
regardless of who it is. The Democrat gets my vote. I won't sit and complain if it's not the person I wanted, I won't moan and groan, I won't whine incessantly on DU.
I will happily put my mark in the box next to the Democrat who will be the next president of the United States. ![]() |

211. Thats the plan.
I think its still a long time till the elections, and the candidates and voters still have plenty of chances to make bad decisions. Its always possible we could come up with a dark horse that I flat can't back. Zombie Zell Miller, for instance.
But shy of some very unexpected and heinous turn like Lieberman turning up and literally stealing the show, I expect to be voting for the Democratic candidate, whoever it is. My enthusiasm may be great, or moderate, or very tempered, depending on which one obtains the nomination. But I am a Democrat, and I am Antifa, and I will do what I realistically and meaningfully can to stand against fascism, including voting against Trump even if I dont wholeheartedly love our nominee. |

227. Im not concerned how they will stack up against Trump
There is no comparison between an ignorant orange buffoon and any of the Democratic candidates, I am concerned about the stupidity of the voters, the cheating of the republicans who have already started sending disinformation all over the place, and according to a reporter invited to the Rachel Maddow show last night, as expected, they have become more sophisticated, and that is of big concern.
Like Einstein so eloquently put it: "Only Two Things Are Infinite, the Universe and Human Stupidity, and I Do Not Know About the Former.", and as we know, there is no limit for voters stupidity. The big question is, how can we contribute to combat the attacks that Russians and republicans are and will continue to stage on the internet? If we win that battle then we will defeat these crooks, otherwise it will become more difficult because like they did in 2016, votes will be changed, misinformation will have stupid people switch parties, same as it happened in 2016. I am hoping Democrats would be more proactive in trying to prevent the cheating from republicans this time around, that they will protect their servers, etc. |
