I think the mainstream is freaking out.
So many progressive lefties were elected to the House this cycle, in record numbers, and corporate power sees this wave coming. Hence the stupid distractions and lies.

(5,914 posts)I didn't care about him then, and I still don't care. I never will care.
Lots of crazy people fake beatings and file fake police reports every single day. This has always happened. Whether it's for revenge, attention, or whether it satisfies some other weird psychological need, it happens. The media generally ignores it. Not this time.
Which indicates to me that there is some other desperate national narrative that the corporate-owned media is trying to push.

(37,648 posts)It was a bit unbelievable that Trumpers were flocking to watch Empire, and then zeroed in on him, an unknown. Not sure how Smollett thought people knew he was gay. I'd never heard of him, so didn't know he was gay.
It's a big story because it's an unusual story, coming at a time when there is a lot of racial discord going on, and he cited "45" in his statements, which brings his disapproval of Trump in on it. And he's a so-called celebrity, who did it to get a larger salary on his show. So this is a bizarro thing.
It is a legitimate story. Yesterday was so big in the news, because that was the day of the police news statement and Smollett's arrest.
It was a big story even before the deception possibilities came out, because of the reasons cited above, and he made a media tour, talking about the awful racist things that happened to him, and the like.

(5,914 posts)I am most concerned about what Robert Mueller has found out about Donald Trump. That is the most important information facing us today.

(34,661 posts)from MSM going all in with Trump during 2016 is still happening. And Trump knows of what we speak. Voters have woke up to Con Man Don's Bull Crap and how his Friends inside the Media made it happen.
Yes there are a percentage that will not jump off the sinking ship called Right Wing Politics, but that group is shirking daily.
Propaganda is one hell of a powerful tool. But reality is even more powerful.

(82,849 posts)Expanded health care coverage, higher tax rates on the wealthy, and making it easier for citizens to vote (to name just three proposals) are very popular. But for some reason, the media seem determined to paint these proposals as "radical" or far out of the mainstream of political discourse as to render them unmentionable.

(12,564 posts)This flies in the face of the statistical fact that most people living below the poverty line are whites.
That perception is created by the stories chosen to run, the words or phrases that reporters use (or don't use), the inflection of a voice (my mother used to lower her voice conspiratorially when she used the word "them" every time she referred to blacks), the images shown to illustrate a story. And of course, there's the constant repetition of the message, "They are the problem. If it weren't for them your life would be great." There are magicians who would give their left nut to be able to influence people's minds that well.

(32,579 posts)All they want to talk about is the "horse race" and how both sides are the same. That's their comfort level - anything to avoid pissing off the conservatives. You know what? They're pissing US off with that shit, and we're not complaining enough. Look what we Democrats did last year - we turned the House of Representatives BLUE with very little help from the news media. That's big!
We need to let them know that our liberal, progressive issues do matter. Our Democratic candidates have important things to say. And we know for a fact that both sides are NOT the same!

(2,461 posts)How can they possibly talk about the great strides in popularity of Democratic Socialism when 'they' are about to start a civil war practically on the border? And don't give the folks any heads up or the peaceniks will get in the way.
It's shameful. Turn off MSM now. Read. Go to RealNewsNetwork or DemocracyNow! or even, if you don't feel its unpatriotic, Telesur. Big shit is going down Monday.
It's hardly a co-incidence that the troops in the middle east are being recalled.
