The presidents ex-fixer credibly accuses him of felonies that, pending more evidence, should result in impeachment and indictment.

One brick does not make a wall, but many bricks do.
When I was a federal prosecutor, a supervisor of mine frequently used this metaphor to remind us that one piece of evidence alone is rarely enough to prove a crime, but enough pieces of evidence are sufficient to prove guilt.
Michael Cohens public testimony on Wednesday did not constitute a wall of evidence, but it did provide several new bricks that could be used to build a case against President Donald Trump. Depending on other evidence in the hands of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, these pieces of evidence may be enough to prove Trump guilty of criminal or impeachable offenses.
Trumps former lawyer testified about several facts that are significant bricks in the figurative wall of evidence.

Again, Wednesdays testimony alone is not enough to convict or impeach Trump, but coupled with other evidence, such as recorded conversations that have been publicly disclosed or any supporting testimony from Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg, it could be a significant piece of evidence of conspiracy to violate campaign finance laws.
Of course, Cohens credibility is questionable in light of his prior lies to Congress and other crimes, another reason that Cohens testimony alone will not be enough to charge or impeach Trump. But liars can be corroborated. Mueller would want to find other evidence to confirm Cohens testimony, such as phone records, bank records, intelligence intercepts or the testimony of others. All of these pieces of evidence mean little when viewed alone, but when considered together, they may add up to a case against the president.
President Trump may get his wall built after all, just not the kind he had envisioned.

(11,885 posts)And trust her judgement. trump has so many different levels of criminality coming at him from many investigations now, he'll never regain from the constantly being exposed for more crimes and illegal activities from people within his criminal enterprise he's run, and still running. His claim I only hire the best people is again proven to be the opposite of the truth. he hires the most corrupt people, the liars and people who'll do anything to get their positions, and keep it, or be replaced by trump if they refuse his illegal demands. Cohen was no different, but has had a change of heart accepting the consequences for his misdeeds for trump now , and telling the truth or risk even more now after volunteering to testify before the House, and with the most to lose from doing it. This will only get mush worse for trump and his loyalist protectors moving closer to the 2020 elections with every day new revelations on the crimes he and others have been a part of. There will be many more bricks for the wall being built now against trump and his criminals helping him.

(15,536 posts)I always trust her opinions to be well thought out.
I also like your post because I think the same thing about trump. The rest of his natural life is going to be miserable and let's hope they stop his ugly kids if they have any designs on continuing his criminality. Trump is old now and his years are numbered and the sin is that he was able to conduct his criminal endeavors and reap the rewards from being a cheat, a conman and a thief most of his life without paying the price earlier. I don't want his kids to EVER get the opportunity to continue the criminality like Donald Sr. was able to after his own father. This has to stop now.
