Embassy Staffers Say Jared Kushner Shut Them Out of Saudi Meetings
When a member of the administration travels overseas, the embassy often helps coordinate the trip. Not when Jared Kushner meets his buddy MBS.

Officials and staffers in the U.S. embassy in Riyadh said they were not read in on the details of Jared Kushner’s trip to Saudi Arabia or the meetings he held with members of the country’s Royal Court last week. And that’s causing concern not only in the embassy but also among members of Congress, according to three individuals with direct knowledge of the matter.

On his trip to the Middle East, Kushner stopped in Riyadh. While there, he met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and King Salman to discuss U.S.-Saudi cooperation, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and economic investment in the region, according to the White House.

But no one from the embassy in Riyadh was in the meetings, according to two sources. The State Department did have a senior official in attendance, but he was not part of the State Department team in Saudi. He is a senior member of the department focused on Iran, according to a source with direct knowledge of the official’s presence in Riyadh.

Lawmakers said they were concerned that the embassy in Riyadh did not have knowledge of what was discussed between Kushner, MBS and King Salman, pointing to the increasingly fragile relationship between the two countries following the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

Lawmakers are particularly interested in understanding the back and forth between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia regarding a potential nuclear deal.

The Daily Beast reported last week that the Trump administration is still actively working to make a deal to send U.S. nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia
and that American energy businesses are still hoping to cash in on Riyadh’s push for energy diversification.

Professional staff and officials in the administration said they are interested in the possible connection between efforts by private businesses to engage with Saudi Arabia on nuclear energy and the quiet, ongoing discussions between senior U.S. officials and Riyadh about a deal.

Rubio says Saudi crown prince has gone ‘full gangster’

Sen. Marco Rubio on Wednesday accused Saudi Arabia’s powerful crown prince of going “full gangster” and urged the Trump administration’s nominee for ambassador to Riyadh to hold the country accountable for human rights abuses.

The comments by Rubio (R-Fla.) drew agreement from others on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and underscored the ongoing bipartisan frustration among U.S. lawmakers with the oil-rich Arab kingdom.

“He’s gone full gangster,” Rubio said of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who’s commonly called MBS. He further said the Saudi royal was “reckless, ruthless” and “increasingly willing to test the limits of what he can get away with.”

The Saudi list of offenses, Rubio and others noted, include the killing of civilians in the U.S.-supported conflict in Yemen, the murder of Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi, the alleged torture of an American citizen and the detention of women’s rights activists.

The ambassadorial nominee, retired Army Gen. John Abizaid, stressed that the U.S. relationship with the Saudis was bigger than the crown prince, and that the best way to change conditions in the Arab kingdom was through engagement. ......................................

in this "job" apart from getting deals for himself and family. That was made much easier by putting him in this position. Like his father-in-law, he has little experience in the job, apart from enriching himself and his family. Imagine a democratic son in law being given this office? HELL would have broken loose long ago. There are legitimate reasons why he was denied security clearance at the beginning.

That the Kushner family was in enormous financial trouble for an unmanageable debt on a Manhattan building until last summer when Qatar bailed them out.

. . .but don't put it past the parties involved. . .yet.

Unproven
This rating indicates that insufficient evidence exists to establish the given claim as true, but the claim cannot be definitively proved false. This rating typically involves claims for which there is little or no affirmative evidence, but for which declaring them to be false would require the difficult (if not impossible) task of our being able to prove a negative or accurately discern someone else’s thoughts and motivations.

But they go out of their way to say every aspect of the story is true. They just can't prove causal linkage between one action and the next.

Although the sequence of events referenced in the meme is described accurately according to reputable news reports, the motives, connections, and causality the meme ascribes to those events have not been proved.

Throw in the attempt to sell nuclear technology and the Kashogi murder and this administration has way beyond being given any benefit of the doubt. They need to do business with SA in the full light of day.

Saudi Arabia has madrassas all over the world but the narrative we are all supposed to blindly believe is that Iran is #1. It freaking amazes me how a country can fly planes into world trade center buildings and then 20 years later we are on the verge of giving them nuclear weapons. WTF.
