Was a mere teenager in high school when I learned to program. I have several relatives in their 90s who are online, one cousin recently turned 100. He was still mowing his own grass, last I heard.

I think there should be a few DUers in their 90s, quite a few in their eighties. There are a lot of us in our 70s.

today. I took my first Fortran programming class in 1963, when code was entered on an IBM punch card machine. You could look at us as "very early adopters." Some of us have been involved ever since. So, there should be no surprise.

I couldn't vote in 1968 against Nixon (I was 19 and voting age was 21). My first vote was for George McGovern in 1972, by then voting age was lowered to 18. The outcry at the time(in the 60's) was, you could die for your country in Nam but couldn't vote!

First vote was for McGovern. Self-identified as a feminist about my junior year in high school. Joined NOW and still have the first issue of MS magazine. Lurked on DU for quite awhile before I joined, basically because of the stolen 2000 election.

Although retired, I still play my guitars (paid-up Musicians Union dues, gig-ready); go to the gym 3 times a week, and swim often (also hike); my mind is as keen as ever (blessed/cursed with a steel-trap memory); and I have numerous collecting interests that connect me with people worldwide: Native American carvings and textiles, paper ephemera, toy soldiers (that’s “military miniatures” to the coinniseur), and BOOKS.

Other than a few minor aches from working out, and creeping deafness in my left ear (too many rock concerts seen up-front), and the unstoppable “historical changes” in one’s face, I’m still the same person that I was in my 30s (but far, far wiser).

Turning 70 conjures up grandfatherly stereotypes of a portly, cherubic gent nodding off in a La-Z-Boy recliner while reruns of “Gunsmoke” flicker on the TV. BUT IT’S NOTHING LIKE THAT!

It is a weird, somewhat unbelievable sensation when you ponder “70 years.” It seems like a long road traveled in some ways, but new and interesting things are popping up all the time. I do worry a bit about the mathematical certainty of passing away, suddenly or otherwise, because that time is now obviously closer. But who knows when the actually expiry date will occur? Nobody! So, until then, Cheers!

And he added, “Age is a question of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter."

With the wisdom gained over time, I pace myself better, eat better, sleep better (although the slide into Trumpist fascism vexes me no end), and have far more interests going than I did 15-20 years ago. My wife is a fantastic partner, she cooks, gardens, swims, and she plays guitar too— we jam at night often! Why the hell not?
