Not talking about the Republican hate for AOC (that's pretty much a given at this point) but what I'm seeing of some fellow Democrats towards AOC is bothering me. And it's not really garden variety minor criticisms and nitpicks about her that disturb me, but it's like wild, outlandish slurs that I've heard from DEMOCRATIC Facebook friends against her like her being "our version" of Donald Trump and feeding into/promoting the right-wing distortions and outright lies about the Green New Deal.

(60,997 posts)It's not just "news" that should be taken with a grain of salt on FB.
Methinks the OP should concern himself more with not feeding trolls.

(7,142 posts)just like her in Congress. Speaker Pelosi taking her under her wing has stopped some of the negativity here on DU, but there are still lurkers here just waiting to pounce on her.
The right fears her because she is one of the few Dems who has the ability to change the right wing narratives.
If Republicans don't have the M$M behind them they have nothing.

(7,904 posts)I already have three posts hidden in the last ninety days....won't say any more. Suffice to say I'm glad to see at least one Democratic incumbent that has some rhetorical skill. Dems should be loud and obnoxious instead of timid and meek.

(24,798 posts)Just not some of the other things that I mentioned in my OP. Calling her a left-wing version of Donald Trump is just a bridge too far IMHO because she might not get the facts of something right here and there.

Cenk Uygur is a co-founder, and he's shown that he's definitely not a fan of Democrats.
If you want to equate a healthy, informed skepticism of JD's motives with calling them "heretics" that's your business.
This is DU, so you're going to find defense of and support for the Democratic party.
Just an FYI.

(17,071 posts)they use her to scare older voters away from the Democrats. I wouldn't say Democrats hate her, but many feel that the amount of attention she gets isn't warranted.

(15,805 posts)upsetting the old applecart? They are certainly bold, brash, assertive and very public about their policies and positions. These confident, outspoken young women are not going to be content as the usual submissive backbenchers, a traditional role for newbies that apparently some people want to force on them.
They might make a few mistakes as they are learning the ropes, but they sure bring a fresh enthusiasm and vitality to politics that makes it more interesting and exciting.

(96,882 posts)I think some people see an opportunity for Leadership to move a lot of valuable legislation in advance of the 2020 Election, and AOC and her allies are potentially disrupting that progress (and the messaging in support of it), by pushing more extreme (and much more difficult to pass) options like GND.

(7,581 posts)I am thoroughly impressed with OAC, Katie Porter, and all of the other NEW women in Congress. I keep saying, keep it up and find myself finally beginning to sigh with relief. There may be hope yet and most of that hope is coming from women.

(82,383 posts)If you see hate, it is likely due to the same phenomenon observed with Bernie. The supporters claiming the moderates are not good enough.

(24,461 posts)Kind of like what's happening here -
It's why I don't want any candidate for president born during the FDR/Truman administrations. No offense, but you had your time, and you got us TRUMP.
We cannot move forward with an over-represented block of aging moderates pushing stale incremental Republican-lite ideas that simply do not work in the 21st century. Modern capitalists are part of this aged block; they're more greedy & neo-Fascist than ever and they too bitterly cling to their unsurpassed power and riches with super glue.

(637 posts)I don't "hate" anyone. I do think that AOC is a gift to the republicans and an albatross for the democrats. I can't be any more specific as to why I feel this way because DU will censor my opinion as they have many times before on this very subject.

(11,949 posts)And Im glad she pisses off republicans.
That said, I think her passion and gift for attention leads many passionate democrats to badly misread our overwhelming victory 2018 and feeds into the narrative that it was victory was of the left of our party or Democratic Socialism.
Which is not only totally incorrect but risky to our future. The loudest new freshman do not represent why we won in 18. They all won safe seats. It was more moderate democrats who actually picked up republican seats that drove our victory. That is why we won the house, we picked good candidates who could win in their districts. You know, a 50 state strategy?
If we are fooled into thinking America as a whole is pining for a candidate like her we are going to lose.
You may disagree and I respect that. But I think the facts are on my side. Does anyone here think AOC could have flipped a seat from a republican? If so, I would respectfully like to hear your argument.
So there. A thoughtful post about why I am uncomfortable with her attention grabbing nature.
No hate at all.
