GOPer's statements re Obama's recess appointment: Mitt Romney (against); Senator Scott Brown (for)

Romney On Cordray: Appointment Is 'Chicago-Style Politics' At Its Worst

GOP contender Mitt Romney just released a statement on President Obama’s expected recess appointment of consumer watchdog Richard Cordray calling it “Chicago-style politics at its worst.”

“President Obama’s Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is perhaps the most powerful and unaccountable bureaucracy in the history of our nation, headed by a powerful and unaccountable bureaucrat with unprecedented authority over the economy. Instead of working with Congress to fix the flaws in this new bureaucracy, the President is declaring that he ‘refuses to take no for an answer’ and circumventing Congress to appoint a new administrator. This action represents Chicago-style politics at its worst and is precisely what then-Senator Obama claimed would be ‘the wrong thing to do.’ Sadly, instead of focusing on economic growth, he is once again focusing on creating more regulation, more government, and more Washington gridlock. As President, I will focus on turning around our economy so that America can once again lead the world in job creation.”

Scott Brown Supports Obama Cordray Appointment

Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) is officially on board with President Obama’s recess appointment of Richard Cordray to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, sending reporters the following statement:

I support President Obama’s appointment today of Richard Cordray to head the CFPB. I believe he is the right person to lead the agency and help protect consumers from fraud and scams. While I would have strongly preferred that it go through the normal confirmation process, unfortunately the system is completely broken. If we’re going to make progress as a nation, both parties in Washington need to work together to end the procedural gridlock and hyper-partisanship.

His GOP masters have apparently given him the A-OK to vote the way Massachusetts wants him to, in order to curry favor with the electorate. He has to move (or at least vote) to the middle in order to even have a chance against Elizabeth Warren.
Nothing more, nothing less.

and any opposition to the appointment for political reasons would further harm his chances in Massachusetts to win reelection.
It is senates duty to vote up or down on appointments, not block them. The law they passed establishing an agency to oversee protection for consumers, needs an admiinstrator to function. Brown has enough sense to see this to his credit.

8. Rick Santorum In New Hampshire: Congress Should Take Obama To Court For Recess Appointments

Santorum sharply criticized the president for recess-appointing Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau -- although he called it the Consumer Financial Services Commission -- and two Democrats and one Republican to fill vacancies on the National Labor Relations Board.

"When Congress refuses to act and as a result hurts our economy and puts people at risk, I have an obligation as president to do what I can without them," Obama said in a speech in Shaker Heights, Ohio, explaining his actions. "I have an obligation to act on behalf of the American people."

"What the president did was wrong," said Santorum.

"Pretty scary stuff," he added. "I hope that the United States Senate does what they're supposed to do, and they should go and even take the president to court. This is not something that the president should get away with."

One man yelled, "Impeach!" in response.

10. Romney: 'More regulation' that hurts 'job creation'? What Cordray's appointment hurts is unregulated LOAN-SHARKING

What Cordray's appointment hurts is unregulated LOAN-SHARKING by payday lenders who charge their customers an average of 400 percent! The Federal government currently has no power to regulate these usurers, and Cordray's appointment will change that. See http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002121504 and especially that OP's link to a "gateway" article in Slate.com.
