"Who can beat Trump" is the WRONG question

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by DonViejo (a host of the General Discussion forum).

To create another Blue Wave we must ask a very different question:

"Who can excite the Democrats and independents to actually vote."

We have to stop worrying about impressing Trump's base. They won't vote for a Democrat even if he or she was Jesus reincarnated. They have even hooted and hollered about voting for a Russian over any Democrat.

We should sample ALL these impressive Democratic candidates and determine which communicates clearly enough a vision for renewal that will excite the Democrats and fence-sitters, NOT the Republicans. We should concern ourselves with whether WE like THEM, not what the moron brigade thinks.

The point is this:

Just as happened with FDR, JFK, Bill Clinton and Obama, it is OUR enthusiasm that matters, it's OUR enthusiasm that gets out the vote and builds a wave – a Blue Wave. Concerning ourselves with the enthusiasm of the 33% that adores a dictator wannabe is a recipe for disaster. Getting another goon like Trump, or something middling to split the difference, will DEFLATE the vote.

There are more of us than there are of them and we are motivated.

Both the radical left and the radical right will lie and smear, trying to sow discord and discontent. It is all bullshit and people who care about our democracy need to sift out radical noise and VOTE DEMOCRATIC like your life.depends on it.

Because it does.

It's too bad thise trolls can't appreciate what a big, beautiful Blue Wave could do for their own country.

We shouldn't let the trolls divide any country – the US (which brought in Trump), Britain (Brexit), France (nearly toppled Macron).

Let's focus on finding a great Democrat and not fall into the divisiveness. All our candidates are stand out brilliant next to ANY Republican. And they all work really hard.

Who can beat Trump by exciting Democrats, independents and people who didn't vote last time, to vote for them? Trump's MAGAts will vote for him no matter what. We need to get the votes of the former non-voters as well as the non-MAGAts.

If the prospect of four more years of Trump in the White House doesn't motivate a person to vote, then I have nothing but contempt for them.

about civic responsibility.

I'm tired of the entitled idiots who brought us trump and who are threatening to do the same again because a given candidate doesn't give them tingles.

Agreed. Voting AGAINST Trump will be huge.
But add to that voting FOR a fantastic Democrat and you get a big beautiful Blue Wave.

The point is to ignore what the Trump-humpers think because they're crazy and can't reason themselves out of a cardboard box (or a con man). In the primaries we should be focusing on who WE can get excited about. It's a given they aren't a Trump. Thus:

Anti-Trump PLUS great Dem = Mega Blue Wave

Political scientists have proven that in marketing both products and politicians, word of mouth counts more than ads. If you excite the VOTING Democrats, they will bring along the non-voters.

Trump’s base. Those hard-core authoritarians, racists and other deplorables are maybe 35% of the approximately 24% of the electorate who are still Republican plus a smaller percentage of “independents”who are nevertheless also very loyal to Trump.

Of course no one plans to win by appealing to them. That would be stupid, and our people are far from stupid.

Even Bernie Sanders, who IS trying to draw big numbers of conservative populists disappointed by Trump to his flag, isn’t going after Trump loyalists.
