he made me laugh so hard I cried. He was talking about doing the popular (at the time) Canadian Air Force exercises and mis-read the instructions for one - he somehow thought you had to do these leg exchange things in the air, instead of just on the ground, because the drawing didn't show a floor.

He was relating how he was talking to someone else about it, and how they were so hard to do, and puzzlement and then hilarity ensued, and he actually got up and showed how he could do about two of how he envisioned them from the picture. I think I was rolling around and clutching myself with laughter, of course he had perfect comedic timing telling the story, too. Everyone was howling.

When he signed my friend's copy of his book, he asked what name she wanted him to sign it too and she gave her full name. Her middle name is the name of an old, old song, and he started signing it to her! We've both never forgotten that.

I grew up in an era that marked the beginning of color television. Carl Reiner gave us an alternative to Dragnet and Bonanza. I was amused.
