The Important Issue About the Events Around the Russia Investigation
The important issue to me in the Mueller Report and the investigation so far, is the standard used to bring indictments. The Mueller investigation is about American citizens, many in the government right now, who may have conspired with a hostile foreign power to defraud the American people. In layman's terms, Treason.
Now, the Justice Department has put a criteria on indictments for these crimes as "beyond a reasonable doubt, as well as being able to prove the case to a jury of 12 reaching a unanimous guilty verdict." These guidelines are fine for putting a person in jail. These guidelines are fine for the average Joe who may have committed bank fraud or tax evasion. But they are not fine with me when it comes to Treason, and they are not fine with me that a person, who may have committed Treason staying in his or her government position.
If there is "probable cause" that a person may have committed Treason, that person should not hold a position of trust in the United States. That person should not still be negotiating agreements with foreign governments. That person should not still be appointing judges. The American people should know that there is "probable cause" the he or she is a traitor, even if they are not indicted because the bar is so high as I described. "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt" is a great concept to prevent incarceration, but that bar is far too high when it comes to remaining in office when the charge is tantamount to Treason.
