Fitzmas was a sham because we knew they did it and they could really only pin on Libby, the scapgoat.

(4,450 posts)For Fitzmas 2.0 we got Manafort and Cohen, and a couple little stocking stuffers (but all before Fitzmas Day 2.0

(16,646 posts)One can spend a lot of time discussing both the differences and similarities. I was becoming suspicious early on that Mueller wouldn't find anything. Mostly because the Russians were smart enough to actually personally involve Trump directly in the activities. They probably figured he was too stupid to actually be of help.
I will say though, all those people were lying for a reason.

(5,586 posts)Libby is still probably the only person that has had his criminal status reviewed and acted upon by two separate Presidents.

(26,721 posts)The greatest gift anticipated for Fitzmas was the possibility that Cheyney would end up resigning.
This holiday season the hope was for Trump to be taken down with proof that the election was stolen - resulting not only in his impeachment and removal but in the largest wave election ever seen washing republicans from office all around the country.
Last Fitzmas we asked for the toy fire engine and got coal... this Fitzmas we still get coal, but expected a pony.

(6,535 posts)I got the impression that this was basically assumed to be the case, and even the Barr press release sounds like that's just taken as a matter of course--but the bigger issue is that the Republicans who hold the key positions of actual power to do anything about it, just won't...
"Yep, sure enough the Russians ratf*cked the election, but there's no clear evidence that Bonespurs himself was directly involved in working out the specific details of the deal to make that happen (and they were going to hack the election to install him in office anyway, with or without his direct assistance), so really you've got nothing you can convict him on, so what can you do? Oh, well...let's go investigate the Clintons again..."

(37,748 posts)To date: indicted or got guilty pleas from 34 people and three companies during their investigation. That group is composed of six former Trump advisers, five of which pleaded guilty.

(43,153 posts)So in that sense, this is worse.
However, I feel Mueller was far more thorough in a scandal that was far, far, far more extensive, and the problem here is that whatever efforts he made were essentially buried.
So worse than Fitzmas, but so different it's hard to compare the two.
