And that Barr's summary of Mueller's report is a cover up that has been in the
works for long before Mueller turned in his documentation.

Nixon tried the same thing, but Trumps crimes are a thousand times worse. He has made so many enemies there are few except the cover up specialist, himself, William Barr and the few Republicans left.

(5,812 posts)Several weeks ago when Barr had a meeting with Mueller, what Barr heard was bad, really bad for tRump. Thus, Barr, as the henchman for tRump, had to find a way to make an end run around Mueller. Barr, and also most people, could see that Mueller was an honorable man who would not stray outside the lines of the laws governing the Office of the Special Counsel. Unlike prior investigations, the Counsel then was an independent counsel -- hence no supervision by the AG. We all know the effects this had for Nixon and Clinton.
The result of Barr finding out that the hammer was about to fall on tRump was IMO that Barr told Mueller to wrap it up and Barr took over and has done and will do anything and everything to prevent rTrump's indictment, even if it were to be sealed to prevent it being outlawed by the statute of limitations, by taking over and making it his decision on the issues which Mueller was to address.

What we are seeing now is an organized "roll out" of disinformation that the Mueller
report didn't show any collusion between Trump and Russia even though we haven't
seen the Mueller report.

(5,812 posts)My late law partner was a AUSA and went over to the good side and did criminal defense after he quit the US Attys office. I cannot recall any time that a prosecutor was on a case against us and did not make a judgment call on charging a client. Does not compute.
So, Mueller, the career prosecutor, throws up his hands and has no opinion? There is NO way I am buying that BS.
Botany
(70,483 posts).... but you have a special consul and his staff work so long but not issue a reason why the person or persons in
question were or were not charged doesn't pass the smell test to me. My guess is that Mueller was closing in and Barr shut him down.
This is the largest scandal and world wide crime syndicate in our history. It is really hard for me to wrap my head around it. Manafort picked Pence to be V.P., 16 million people were removed from voting prior to the 2016 election, and members of the media and the GOP are giving are giving cover to the crooks.

(70,483 posts).... but now we have a level of complicity among the current Republicans that it is hard to fathom.
For the love of God we had Trump, Russia, and the GOP working to and succeeding in rigging
our elections and democracy. Russia did not attack Hillary, Democrats, or liberals but attacked
our country in nothing less then an act of war and the Republicans are fine with that because it
kept them in power.

(5,812 posts)And the comment you made about Republicans was echoed by both of them.
I do think that some of the problem with today is that the Republicans fear tRump and what revenge he can pour upon them. Look how he turned on Sessions and Cohen.
The Russians are beyond evil. What they did to people behind the Iron Curtain is ugly beyond words. There is no doubt that they would do this to Eastern Europe and to the US given the chance.
IMO, tRump is ruled by money and his ego. The Russians found this soft spot and owned him. He is as it is said, IMO, a "Useful Idiot."

(70,483 posts)I grew up knowing in person in a few cases or knowing about great
men and women who were republicans but those days are long gone.
Ike, Margaret Chase Smith, Ray Shafer, Chuck Percy, Lowell Weicker, &
Mark Hatfield have been replaced by the like of Louie Gohmert, McConnell,
Jim Jordan, and Marsha Blackburn people to whom facts and knowledge
mean nothing .... Praise Jesus!
The republican welcomed Russian help along with the dirty voting machines
because demographics and the issues doom them to their dustbin of history.
I have no doubt that Russia got and has used kompromat on the likes of people
of Lindsey Graham.

(5,812 posts)He was my president. Not a a president of one party or the other. I felt the same about JFK...he was my president.
Things changed, IMO, with Ronnie Raygun. He was the president of the elite and the wealthy. He was NOT my president. He did not like plain, honest things, like the old governor's mansion in California, but built a white elephant that looked like a University Conference center.
The newest ilk of Republicans are, IMO, mean, dishonest and funded by those who do not care about matters that are basic to my America -- the kind of thoughts I see on the DU and in the hearts of Dems who are running right now for POTUS...well, at least all but one of them.
Trump is evil...pure unadulterated evil...governed by the love of money...and down right stupid.
People like Trump who are literally governed by money are subject to being influenced and owned by Russia. Look at the Republicans who literally cannot remove their lips from Trump's butt. (OMG, the visual on that!) I do have to say that Jeff Session did earn a crumb of respect from with when he recused from the Russian investigation. I was surprised he did that, but it did tell me that he possibly knew what the appropriate thing was to do as a member of the bar. Or...on the other hand, he knew where the bodies were buried and wanted to avoid all of those piles of shit.

Colgate posted something I didn't know. Barr and Mueller have been friends forever. Their wives are in the same Bible study. And Mueller is a dutiful lines of authority type. So, he may not throw Barr under the bus.
Pure conjecture here. But what if they wrapped it up to move it along and to make Congress the decider? I think trump maybe didn't want the probe to end so he could stay the victim.
I don't know. Barr is definitely protecting trump. So how can he be friends with Mueller and do that?
It's a true mystery. Because giving it to Congress is a nonstarter.. impeachment off the table.
Is Mueller subject to confidentiality by law?

This may be an inappropriate analogy but it mirrors my feelings to a tee, its like a political Project Blue Book, if we tell the truth about aliens your world will it will never be the same.
The report may be so damning to practically all parts of our government that whatever it says would destroy our faith in our government as it is today. Too many lives exposed, too much corruption, too much of everything that would rattle us. They may think the report may be too unbelievable in its scope for us peons to understand in its complexities therefore something the public should not ever see.

(1,336 posts)Remember the look on the faces of Grassley and Feinstein after they came away from that meeting. I've no doubt that they were dismayed, disheartened and, indeed, heartbroken that these things should have been allowed to happen in their beloved country. And what is even worse is that, both then and now, they had no idea just who they could trust, nor how this horrible mess could be rectified.
It's easy to say "Follow the money" and that's a huge part of it, but what they collectively need to realize is that, if indeed the US is truly the leader of the free world, then it befalls said leader to fix this. Putin is the free world's #1 ENEMY, and his burning desire to re-establish the Soviet Union is aided, abetted and financed by the far rightwing throughout not only the US (and currently being infiltrated into Canada) but also every single European country.
Every day it just gets worse -- to the point where many folks are simply afraid to listen or watch the news. And THAT is the very worst thing that could happen -- to the US or to any country.

Can't rule out any nefarious BS with him, he has always been and will be a scumbag.
It should not be up for debate, but after the clownshow in the house intelligence committee yesterday, the reason, decency and ethics of ANY republican official should be in question at this point.
